ThomsonFly 757 bird strike & flames captured on video This incident was video recorded by Simon Lowe. 233 people where on board this jet bound for Lanzarote. The number 2 engine sucks in one bird (a crow or corvid) as the plane rotates off the runway. T.V. news reports of two herons being sucked in are wrong. American 757 takeoff St. Martin St. Martin airport has a beach just 20 feet from the edge of the main runway. There are signs telling people you can be killed by being to close to a airplane taking off. I was sure I was smarter than that since I am a pilot and actually flew a 757 into the island. I was standing slightly upwind of the port engine when this AA 757 started it's takeoff. It was actually hilarious, you can see in the video as I get blown right off my feet.
