HONDA　1002　ドリーム　CB400FOUR　CB400F ドリームCB400FOUR（ドリームシービーよんひゃくフォア）は、1974年12月3日に本田技研工業により発表されたオートバイ。通称は「CB400F」、「ヨンフォア」、「フォーワン（フォーインワン）」、「シーヨン」など ドリームCB400FOURは、ドリームCB350FOUR[1]の後継機種として発売された[2] 当時、このクラスの国産車唯一の直列4気筒モデルであったドリームCB350FOURは、当時の4気筒、ドリームCBシリーズの末弟であり、シリーズトップモデルであるドリームCB750FOURに乗ることを「ヘルメットを2つ被ってもらわないと...」と周囲に止められた創業社長の本田宗一郎が「ならば、俺にも乗れるのを作れ」と言う一言で計画されたともいわれている。そしてそのドリームCB750FOURと同様の4本出しのマフラーの外観を持っていたCB350FOURだったが、その静的なイメージとひかえめな動力性能から、「ツイン（2気筒）よりも遅いフォア（4気筒）」と言うありがたくない評価が与えられた。 これを受けて計画されたドリームCB400FOURは、当時流行し始めた集合マフラーと後退したステップを採用した軽快なカフェレーサースタイルを全体に取り入れ人気モデルになった。エンジンはドリームCB350FOURの347ccの物をベースに408ccへボアアップ、更に当時としては珍しかった6段変速式のトランスミッションがホンダの市販車としては初採用された。この際、ドリームCB350FOURの開発時に本田宗一郎から指摘されていた「エンジンの冷却フィンを（おもにその外観上の理由から）増やすように」という指示を実現したといわれる。 メタリック塗装に金属のエンブレムが一般的だった当時、シンプルなソリッドカラーにステッカーのロゴは非常に新鮮に見えたが、同時にコレはコストダウンでもあった。集合マフラーも軽量化とコストダウンの為であり、当時は集合による脈動効果に関してはよく分かっていなかった様である。独特なラインを描いたエキパイはオイルフィルターとの干渉を避けるためだと言われている。 発売後、『おぉ400。お前は風だ。』というカタログのキャッチコピーが暴走族による暴走行為を連想させるような文であると当時の警察から指摘され、後に『おぉ400。お前が好きだ。』という所有感を感じさせる内容のコピーに一部変更された。 ところが1975年に行われた運転免許制度の改正によって、当時の教習所などで取得できる自動二輪免許で運転ができるのは400cc以下に限定され、それ以上の排気量の車種に乗るには限定解除審査が必要になった事から、408ccの排気量を持つドリームCB400FOURは限定免許では乗ることができなくなってしまった。 これに対応してショートストローク化され、排気量を398ccとして1976年3月6日に発売された国内向け専用追加モデルがCB400FOUR-I、およびそのアップハンドルモデルCB400FOUR-IIである[3]。主な変更点として、 * 左右のサイドカバーの色がブラックアウトされた。（CB400FOURは燃料タンクと同色） * カラーラインナップが、CB400FOURのタンクカラーにはレッドとブルー、F-I/F-IIはレッドとイエローとなった。 * リア・ステップがCB400FOURのスイングアームへの設置に対し、フレーム側に移された。その為フレームも変更されている。 その他タンク下部の形状、シートの形状やメータ表示も異なると言われている。性能的にはドリーム400FOURの37馬力に対して1馬力のダウンに留まる36馬力を発生し、「実質的にそのパワー差は感じられなかった」と当時のオートバイ雑誌のインプレッションにある。 1977年モデルの輸出仕様はタンクにラインが入ると共に、CB400FOURの特徴であったリンクを介したバックステップが廃止された。 しかし、当時のこのクラスは直列2気筒モデルが主流であり、直列4気筒モデルはコスト高になる為、ドリームCB350FOURベースに徹底的にコストダウンを図って開発されたにも関わらず、二通りのエンジン、二通りのフレームとなるスペックの異なり、カラーバリエーションも異なる国内専用モデルを追加したためコスト高は否めず、比較的短期間で国内仕様は生産終了となってしまう。その後しばらくして輸出仕様も生産終了となった。 当時、限定免許で乗れる唯一の直列4気筒車として絶大な人気があったため、その生産中止は当時のオートバイ雑誌のトップ記事になる程であった。そして生産コストを抑えた直列2気筒のホークシリーズに惜しまれながらその後を譲るに至り、その後は中古車販売価格が新車当時の価格を上回るプレミアム車のはしりとなった。 国内最大、そして4ストロークエンジンの老舗であるホンダですら400ccクラスの4気筒が商業的に失敗した事、ホンダの言う通り2気筒のホークIIの方が走りが良かったという事実は、今後400ccクラスの4気筒モデルは出てこないであろうと思わせるに充分で、それがプレミア騒動に拍車を掛けたといえる。発表から30年以上を経過した現在でもそのファンは多い。 Tags: HONDA ドリーム CB400FOUR CB400F ダチョウ マッハ マッハマスター ランチ カフェレストラン ライダーズカフェ ダチョウ料理 紅白カレー 堺鍋 堺バーガー グルメ ダチョウ焼 ステーキー
