HHO fuel cell - COSM-II This is the newest incarnation of the COSM, dubbed COSM-II. It is built into a much smaller box, which turned out to be nearly too small to accomodate everything! Within this box is the pot, power on/off switch, pulse-LED, and power (pilot) LED as well as the parts that really make it work: the circuitboard containing the oscillator and the 12v DC/5v DC power supply. I still need to update or create the diagram for the upgraded circuitboard so that you can see how the power supply is wired. I also need to create a new wiring diagram for the COSM-II that shows how to wire everything up. It's very different from how the original COSM was wired. The circuit alone has 6 individual wires that need to be properly connected, so I'll diagram that for you in the event you'd like to try building it. The COSM-II is now fully powered by your vehicle's 12v DC electrical system and I've completely done away with the external battery pack (partly because the new box is so small that there is no way to accomodate it as an option). It also gives you the pulsing LED to show you each time a pulse is generated, as well as a pilot-LED that shows you that the unit is in fact receiving power. The DPDT switch has been replaced by a simple push-on/push-off toggle switch, built into the side of the box. Due to its much smaller size, the COSM-II takes up less space and is less obtrusive, while at the same time being even more capable. I'd still like to add a small voltage display but have to figure out how to shoehorn that in, along with adding the second pot for control over pulse frequency. You'll see further enhancements to the COSM-II in future videos. NOTE! There has been some question about whether the COSM or COSM-II is designed to totally replace the O2 sensor. NO! It is designed to add voltage TO what the O2 sensor is already sending so that we push up the voltage to the threshold where the computer sees a command to "lean out" the fuel being pumped into the engine. The COSM could be used temporarily to take the place of an O2 sensor, providing the oscillating voltage the computer expects to see in order to run in closed-loop operation but that would only be recommended as a stop-gap until you have a chance to replace your bad O2 sensor. I've seen some forums making the assumption that the COSM is designed to completely take the place of the O2 sensor entirely, and that simply is not its function. It works WITH your O2 sensor to help lean out your engine so that your HHO gas is being utilized more effectively and so your computer doesn't "fight" you by pumping even more fuel. I have also read in forums the typical slams against HHO because they say it's impossible to run an engine totally on HHO and no gasoline or diesel. There have been great strides made in that direction, BUT right now what we're doing is generating enough HHO to boost your mileage, so that the gasoline or diesel you are buying goes further between fill-ups, helping save you some hard earned cash. Getting to the point of powering your vehicle completely on HHO is the holy grail of what we're working toward, and we'll get there! Tags: HHO fuelcell hydrogen joecell |

HHO fuel cell - COSM-IIA First-look This is a first look at the new COSM-IIA. All COSM-IIA's will have a voltage meter on the front-right side of the panel. The one in this video does not have the meter only because my shipment of meters isn't due to for delivery until sometime next week (I believe around May 1, 2008). But a customer was in need of this one so I wanted to shoot some footage before sending this one on its way. The COSM-IIA you see in this video is shipping to a customer in just a few days. The COSM-IIA features adjustable power output as well as a new feature: adjustable pulse frequency (the knob on the bottom of the case). In addition, there are two signal output wires and a voltage meter will be mounted on the front-right as a standard feature. I will be updating the diagrams on my freewebs site to reflect the second potentiometer (controlling pulse frequency) so that you can replicate that as well on your COSM project. It's really just as easy as replacing the fixed R1 resistor with two wires, the leftmost of which connects to the pot's left pin and the other connecting to the pot's center (wiper) pin, along with adding an inline 100k resistor to the upstream wire (connecting to the pot's left pin) to effectively give you a 1-1.5 second pulse at max frequency and 3-second pulse at min frequency. That range seems to be nominal for most ECM's. Tags: HHO fuelcell hydrogen joecell |

HHO fuel cell - COSM-IIA READY! COSM-IIA completed, showing the new meter and new layout. Demonstrates the COSM's output, both by itself and with simulated O2 sensor voltage being added. I am in the process of updating all diagrams so that builders can replicate this model. As you can see in the video, it adds the two voltages together nicely. To simulate the O2 voltage, I used a secondary adapter and added inline resistance to bring its voltage down to .5v. As in the first 2A model that you saw, the upper knob controls power output and the second controls frequency. Power switch is on the side, as this has sort of become a familiar "hallmark" of the COSM. No sensor bypass switch is needed. When not powered on, your O2 signal will simply flow through the COSM's circuitry and back out to the ECM unchanged. Tags: HHO fuelcell hydrogen joecell |
