Les Humphries Singers - Mexico 1972 Les Humphries Singers - Mexico 1972 Mexico, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico Mexico, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico In 1580 we sailed our little ship around the coast Of Acrica down the Gaza strip. We took some salty bacon and a hammock for a bed. Then we mixed it with the Spaniards in the middle of the Med. Well we hired our funds Saw the pretty girls a comin'. There wasn't quite as many as there was a while ago We hired some more and then we started runnin' All down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico. Mexico, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico Well Francis Drake said if you really want a fight The best thing is to catch them in the middle of the night. We hoisted anchor and powdered up the gun Then we sailed around in circles and just waited for the fun. Well we hired our funds Saw the pretty girls a comin'. There wasn't quite as many as there was a while ago We hired some more and then we started runnin' All down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico. Mexico, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico yeah yeah yeah Mexico Mexico Mexico Mexico Mexico M - E - X - I - C - O Mexico Mexico Mexico Mexico Mexico Well cannon balls flew and the ship began to sink the water started risin' so we really had to think. And then by chance stood a man as black as coal So we grabbed him by the trousers and we plugged him in the hole So we hired our funds Saw the pretty girls a comin'. There wasn't quite as many as there was a while ago We hired some more and then we started runnin' All down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico. Mexico, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico Well we fired from the side port and we fired from the back And then we fired from the galley and through every little crack. We fired so much that the cook started cooking. Didn't have to worry so we flew the union jack. So we hired our funds Saw the pretty girls a comin'. There wasn't quite as many as there was a while ago We hired some more and then we started runnin' All down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico. We hired our funds Saw the pretty girls a comin'. Les Humphries Singers [2of5] The Les Humphries Singers - part 2of5 1. Mexico (1972) 2. Mama Loo (1973) ======================================== The Les Humphries Singers was a musical group formed in Hamburg, Germany by Englishman Les Humphries in the year 1970. The group consisted of a large number of singers of diverse ethnic origin, some of whom such as John Lawton also performed with other groups. The Les Humphries Singers at the time brought something from the flair of the hippie movement into the hit world. Les Humphries performed a mix of popular music and gospel covers and had some success in Europe with this approach. Two of their earliest and best known hits were "Mama Loo" (1973), and "Mexico" (1972) which was based on the 1960 Johnny Horton country hit "The Battle of New Orleans". Additional members included Liz Mitchell, later front woman with Boney M, and John Lawton, who also sang for the German progressive/hard rock band Lucifer's Friend and would go on to be the frontman for Uriah Heep. The Les Humphries Singers dissolved at the end of the 1970s ====================================== Tags: The Les Humphries Singers 70s John Lawton |
