Ocean Liner Tribute A tribute to the great Ocean Liners of the last 100 Years. We wish they were all still here, but you cannot save them all. I hope, that with time and effort, the Mighty SS United States, the Flagship of America, can be saved just like the Rotterdam, and Queen Mary. May the wind always be in her favor. Visit to The Queen Mary Ocean Liner at Long Beach, Ca. This is a video of photos and a short video clip when me (Bill Wolverton) and some friends of mine were visiting the RMS Queen Mary (The old Queen Mary) ocean liner at Long Beach, California on November 9th, 2007. Part of the ship has been converted to a floating hotel and has been docked in Long Beach, Ca. since 1967. The photos I took are of the outside and some of the inside spaces on board the ship and I included a short video clip I took on the promenade deck of a bag piper playing at some wedding event. The engine room area was closed the day I took this video, so, I have no photos or videos of that. The next time I visit the ship, I hope to take more videos. Final Voyage for Ocean liner QE2 One of the world's most famous ocean liners, Queen Elizabeth 2 ran aground briefly off the south coast of England. The British Queen's husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, bid farewell to the liner before her final voyage. In her 39 years of service as an Ocean liner, Queen Elizabeth 2 has sailed 5.9 million nautical miles, completed 806 trans-atlantic crossings and carried more than 2.5 million guests. The ship ran into a sandbank as she was coming into her home port of Southampton in England. The British Queen's husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, bid her a final farewell. The Queen Elizabeth 2 liner, which also served as a hospital ship transporting injured troops during the 1982 Falkland War, has carried many hundreds of famous passengers, among them Hollywood stars such as Elizabeth Taylor, Bob Hope and Paul Newman and British royalty including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Diana, and Princess of Wales. She's expected to set off on her final voyage to Dubai to become a first class hotel and entertainment centre. Tags: ntd ocean liner QE2 Queen Elizabeth england ship hospital falland war 1982 |
