ICO Playstation 1 Version [PSX Prototype - CANCELLED!] http://www.unseen64.net video from Shadow Of The Colossus Japanese DVD Bonus "Already a number of Ico's elements were in place, and Ueda began to work with Kaido at this point to turn the concepts expressed in the movie into a game design for a PSone title. Their three key points were "differentiation" (to make a game unlike any other), "artistic presentation" (a level of aesthetics such that any still screen of the game would be artistic), and a "non-realistic reality" featuring a vivid heroine who would make the player want to be heroic. They began to accomplish this using a method they referred to as "subtracting design:" every element of the game that took away from its reality was removed. Instead of having a varied cast of enemies with unique strengths and weaknesses, for instance, there would be only one enemy type; instead of a castle, its environs, and nearby settlements, there would only be the castle and an escape from it. They also used unconventional hiring techniques: to put together a team capable of realizing Ueda's vision, they hired mostly outside of the industry to put together an initial staff of two programmers, four artists, and one designer in addition to Ueda and Kaido. A movie Ueda put together during this period shows what they had so far on the PSone version. The lone enemy type is one of the masked, horned soldiers present in the final game only during a cutscene, though the horns are now on Ico rather than Yorda. Some locations are already familiar even at this stage; the outdoor sluice gate puzzle is clearly recognizable, as is the waterfall area. Full production on the game began in October 1998; the team had made the decision to go with hand-done key frame animation rather than motion capture. Ueda claims that actors weren't able to understand the situation and move appropriately, while the key frame method allows for smoother transition between motions. Some of the fruits of this time are visible in a second PSone clip, where the horned guards now have a kick maneuver and Ico's stick weapon is in place. A couple of elements not present in the game also appear briefly: Ico dodges blowgun traps in the wall at one point, and has a visible health meter while battling the guards. September 1999 marked a turning point for the project. Ueda wasn't satisfied with the results they were achieving, and became frustrated that the hardware wasn't capable of realizing his initial vision. He considered three options: either canceling the project outright, altering the design to try and finish the game on PSone, or changing platforms. After some deliberation, the team began converting the project for the PS2 hardware. It had a dramatic effect on the project: their graphical problems were over, with a new engine capable of 60 frames per second, particles, cloth movement, and a unique lighting system. http://www.1up.com/ Tags: ICO beta PSX Playstation PS2 shadow of the colossus wanda unreleased NICO PS3 proto |

Classic Game Room reviews ASTEROIDS for Playstation 1 Classic Game Room season 1 - December 15, 1999. The boys at CGR review the Playstation 1 PS1 remake of the classic arcade hit, ASTEROIDS, which can now be played on a PS3 Playstation 3. Published by ACTIVISION, this old school remake of the older school coin-op classic from 1979 is an interesting remake and take on the Asteroids concept. An early Game Room episode, this is one of the really old-school century offerings from December 1999 before they even had a green screen. Classic Game Room was the first classic video game review show on the Internet, and one of the first (maybe the first) video game review show of all times produced specifically for the Internet. Classic Game Room reviewed Atari, NES, Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast and Playstation... too bad they didn't get to Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 or Wii. Now Classic Game Room HD is covering the new systems. Classic Game Room reviews DRIVER for Playstation 1 PS1 THE SECOND CLASSIC GAME ROOM - Classic Game Room season 1. November 7th, 1999. Pat 2 of the original first Classic Game Room episode (Part 1 was Metal Gear VR Missions), in this early review the Game Room reviews DRIVER for the Playstation 1 PS1 video game console. Released in 1999, Driver should look somewhat familiar to video gamers today, it looks a lot like the modern GTA series with it's behind the car view and total vehicular carnage. This is the first installment in the Driver series with Driver: You Are the Wheelman. And you are, you play as the race car driver in a getaway car among many other things (or are you an undercover police officer doing good deeds for society?) Unlike the later Grand Theft Auto games like GTA4, you can't bring the city of San Francisco to it's knees by slaughtering thousands of innocent civilians, but you can explore the city in this early attempt at an open ended 3rd person driving game revolving around crime and criminal activities. The Driver series has had numerous games since the first one including Driver 2: The Wheelman is Back, Driv3r (the E is a 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), Driver Vegas, Driver Parallel Lines, Driver Working Title, Driver 76 on the PSP, Driver LA Undercover and the upcoming Driver feature film. In yet another video game to movie adaptation, how will Driver the movie, release date is not set, do?? Doesn't really matter, it was put on hold. Maybe it would be better than Street Fighter, but there's NO WAY it'll be better than the first Mortal Kombat movie which was f'n awesome! Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Classic Game Room HD marked the return of the series in 2008. The original Classic Game Room reviewed Atari, NES, Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast and Playstation... too bad they didn't get to Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 or Wii. Now Classic Game Room HD is covering the new systems. Tags: driver vegas driving getaway crime gta ps1 ps2 ps3 xbox 360 review movie upcoming film feature video game action |

Classic Game Room reviews JOUST for Playstation 1 May 20, 2000. The boys at CGR review the Playstation 1 PS1 remake of the classic arcade hit, JOUST, on the Williams Greatest Arcade Hits disc. This game is also playable on the PS3 Playstation 3! Fly giant birds and carry sticks to stab your opponents, Joust was an early 80's arcade classic with fun, unique gameplay. It only required one button and a joystick and was brilliant. Joust has since been released on just about every game console ever made, including the Xbox 360 Live XBLA, Gameboy, NES, Atari 2600, 7800 and Playstation. It is a one and two player game and was EVEN made into a PINBALL machine!!! Classic Game Room reviewed Atari, NES, Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast and Playstation... too bad they didn't get to Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 or Wii. Now Classic Game Room HD is covering the new systems. Too Human [Playstation 1 version! UNRELEASED!] Beta ingame http://www.unseen64.net http://www.toohumanproject.cjb.net May 23, 2000 - Too Human lingered in development for some time, until its developer, Silicon Knights, was acquired by Nintendo to become part of their coalition of second-party developers. As a result of the deal, and SK's move to working on their new Eternal Darkness project, Too Human was cancelled. Too human indeed... First Impressions E3 update Too Human looks to be the first massive adventure game on the PlayStation that blends in Blade Runner themes and stylistic sensibilities with a storyline that rivals Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy VII. Wow, that's a whole lot to believe and to handle, but the gigantic four-disc game takes on a lot and could very well deliver. [...] In this futuristic world, people are part human, part machine, and your character's limbs, neck, head, and just about everything else except his organs can be replaced by chips and machinery. The player will have the option of enhancing his body with cybernetic enhancements at the start of missions, and will be able to customize the character in line with the way they choose to play the game. For example, a player who prefers the Metal Gear Solid approach may wish to enhance leg strength to be able to move more quickly and stealthily through the game, whereas another player might wish to increase arm and torso strength to be able to carry more deadly implements of destruction. The choices made by the player will have a direct bearing on the gameplay in this manner. [...] Too Human, developed exclusively for the PlayStation, has been in the works for almost two plus years now. The 45-person strong team has created a new portal driven engine that practically eliminates fogging altogether. Broad, detailed landscapes free of fogging stretch immense distances, enabling a sense of realism that unseen on the PlayStation to date. http://psx.ign.com/articles/131/131627p1.html Tags: too human 360 xbox psx playstation beta |

Classic Game Room HD - GALAXIAN for Playstation 1 review Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of GALAXIAN for the Sony Playstation 1 video game console system. Not to be confused with Galaga, this is a different game. Similar in style to Space Invaders or Demon Attack, Galaxian is a fun arcade retro old school classic from 1979 that is fun to pick up and play. Shoot the aliens before they shoot you, it's that simple. This review comes from the Namco museum volume 3 for the PS1. Other games on the disc include Ms. Pac Man, Dig Dug, Pole Position 2 and Phozon. This video marks the first useage of the verb "chewlaxian" which is the art of watching the Empire Strikes Back while playing Galaxian. This should make it on to Xbox Live. Be sure to watch the original Classic Game Room episodes. Classic Game Room was the original classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999-2000, now on DVD. Classic Game Room HD - ROBOTRON 2084 Playstation 1 review Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of ROBOTRON 2084 for the Playstation 1 video game system from the Williams Arcade's Greatest Hits PSX game. Robotron 2084 is one of the best old school classic video games ever created. You are a loner armed with a laser gun facing wave after wave of Robotrons hell bent on wiping out mankind. What will the year 2085 be like, how about 2086? This game asks a lot of questions and leaves few answers. But it does leave a wake of human carnage in its path. This is a hard shooter, sort of like Smash TV (hmmmm.... any similarities, maybe the same awesome designer??) CGRHD also reviews Robotron 2084 for Xbox Live Arcade and the Atari 7800 game console. Do they have a version of this game on PS3 or Wii? On Xbox Live you can get achievements and gamerpoints. This version on the PS1 is cool because it has interviews with the video game designers on the creation of the game, behind the scenes information and tricks and more bonus features.
