In Athens there were many beautiful buildings dating from the early 20th century, but most of them were demolished and replaced by modern constructions. This film tells the story of one of them just before its demolition. It is a nostalgic walk in the atmosphere of the twenties and thirties, reflecting the sentiments of its tenant, who has to leave it for ever. This nostalgic atmosphere is heightened by the juxtaposition of the everyday noisy traffic of Athens.. CORFU the island of NAFSIKA The running time of the film is 20 minutes but unfortunately I had to shorten it to 10 minutes in order to meet the rules of this site. It was shot during our vacations in Corfu with a small S8 hand held camera and actually was the basis for the creation of the 16mm movie of CORFU, 3 years later, in 1972. The interesting point of this movie is the sequence of the rally at the old town of Corfu, which does not take place any more for many years now. This happened a few hours after she had born her 4 kittens. Looking at her face, through my camera, I was stunned by the tender expression of tranquility and fullness it had. These special moments have been recorded and you can watch them now, in this video, and perhaps share with me this unforgettable experience .. And yet we, humans, torture animals, destroy nature, harm our neighbors and damage our selves.. I kept this video, for almost 20 years, as something very valuable to me, sharing it only with my friends and my neighbors. But now I decided to share it with you, since the time has come, for all of us, to meet each other, globally, because WE REALLY NEED IT !! .. m.l. Αυτές τις αξέχαστες στιγμές τις κατέγραψα με την μηχανή μου και μπορείτε τώρα να τις παρακολουθήσετε και εσείς σ'αυτό το βίντεο και ίσως μοιρασθείτε μαζύ μου εκείνη την καταπληκτική εμπειρία μου.. Και όμως, εμείς οι άνθρωποι, βασανίζουμε τα ζώα, καταστρέφουμε τη φύση, κάνουμε κακό στους γείτονές μας και βλάπτουμε τους εαυτούς μας.. Αυτό το φίλμ έγινε πριν δύο χρόνια, τον Μάιο του 2005. Από τότε τεράστιες πυρκαιες, έχουν καταστρέψει πάνω από 1 εκατομμύριο εκτάρια στην Πελοπόννησο και στην Καλιφόρνια των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών. You will see S8 and 16mm films, videos and digitally made movies, and perhaps you will recall your creative days of film-making and these years of the sixties and seventies, when thousands of aspiring new amateur filmmakers, worldwide, with a small 8mm camera in hands, were shooting their "masterpieces", in a 3 minutes 8mm reel, which they had to wait for 2 weeks to see it processed and ready for projection. And yet, from some of those short movies, the so called modern artistic cinema, got many fresh ideas about shooting and editing films ! The movies you are going to watch, present the CINE's activities of M.L. who is Construction Engineer, Photographer and Filmmaker. He started as an amateur moviemaker and in a few years his films were shown on TV and at many festivals, internationally. The most interesting of his movies is REQUIEM (1970) for its avant-garde style, which maintains its originality even today, nearly 40 years after it was made ! It has participated at the 1973 Salonika (Greece) professional Cine Festival. It was the Gold Star winner at the London Ten Best Festival (1974) and medal winner at the Cannes International Cine Festival for short films (1976). The same year (1976), it represented Greece at the Malta Cine Festival. If you had visited Corfu in the old times, you will find out that after so many years, only a few things have been changed in this island. One of these, is the traditional clothes of the women, which you can't see nowadays, as well as the carrying of water cans on their heads. Enjoy it...m.l. Ελαβε μέρος στο φεστιβάλ Θεσσαλονίκης το 1973 και πήρε χρυσό αστέρι στο φεστιβάλ TEN BEST του Λονδίνου το 1974 και μετάλλιο στο φεστιβάλ των Καννών, μικρής ταινίας, το 1976. Τον ίδιο χρόνο (1976), εκπροσώπησε την Ελλάδα, στο κινηματογραφικό φεστιβάλ της Μάλτας. Εάν είχατε επισκεφθεί την Κέρκυρα παληά, θα διαπιστώσετε ότι, μετά από τόσα χρόνια, λίγα μόνο πράγματα έχουν αλλάξει σ'αυτό το νησί. Μεταξύ αυτών είναι το παραδοσιακό ντύσιμο των ντόπιων γυναικών που σπάνια απαντάται πλέον σήμερα, όπως επίσης και η μεταφορά νερού σε μεγάλα δοχεία (λάτες), επάνω στα κεφάλια τους.
