The Auroras (North Polar Lights) ~ Days Of The New ~ Touch, Peel And Stand (HQ) (Stereo) To watch in HQ: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s22WOBoU4yA&fmt=18 Auroras (North/South Polar Lights; or aurorae, sing.: aurora) are natural colored light displays in the sky, usually observed at night, particularly in the polar zone. They typically occur in the ionosphere. Some scientists call them "polar auroras". In northern latitudes, the effect is known as the aurora borealis, named after the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora, and the Greek name for north wind, Boreas. It often appears as a greenish glow or sometimes a faint red, as if the sun was rising from an unusual direction. The aurora borealis is also called the northern polar lights, as it is only visible in the North sky from the Northern Hemisphere. The aurora borealis most often occurs from September to October and from March to April. The Cree call this phenomenon the Dance of the Spirits. Its southern counterpart, the aurora australis/southern polar lights, has similar properties. Australis is the Latin word for "of the South". Benjamin Franklin first brought attention to the "mystery of the Northern Lights." He theorized the shifting lights to a concentration of electrical charges in the polar regions intensified by the snow and other moisture. Auroras are produced by the collision of charged particles from Earth's magnetosphere, mostly electrons but also protons and heavier particles, with atoms and molecules of Earth's upper atmosphere (at altitudes above 80 km). The particles have energies of 1 to 100 keV. They originate from the Sun and arrive at the vicinity of Earth in the relatively low-energy solar wind. When the trapped magnetic field of the solar wind is favourably oriented (principally southwards) it reconnects with Earth's magnetic field, and solar particles enter the magnetosphere and are swept to the magnetotail. Further magnetic reconnection accelerates the particles towards Earth. The collisions in the atmosphere electronically excite atoms and molecules in the upper atmosphere. The excitation energy can be lost by light emission or collisions. Most aurorae are green and red emission from atomic oxygen. Molecular nitrogen and nitrogen ions produce some low level red and very high blue/violet aurorae. The light blue colors are produced by ionic nitrogen and the neutral nitrogen gives off the red and purple color with the rippled edges. Different gases interacting with the upper atmosphere will produce different colors, caused by the different compounds of oxygen and nitrogen. The level of solar wind activity from the Sun can also influence the color of the aurorae. Typically the aurora appears either as a diffuse glow or as "curtains" that approximately extend in the east-west direction. At some times, they form "quiet arcs"; at others ("active aurora"), they evolve and change constantly. Each curtain consists of many parallel rays, each lined up with the local direction of the magnetic field lines, suggesting that aurora is shaped by Earth's magnetic field. Indeed, satellites show electrons to be guided by magnetic field lines, spiraling around them while moving towards Earth. The curtains often show folds called "striations", which are curtain-like. When the field line guiding a bright auroral patch leads to a point directly above the observer, the aurora may appear as a "corona" of diverging rays, an effect of perspective. Northern Lights (Low Batt Sitch) This video features the Aurora Borealis, which is commonly known as the Northern Lights. These particular images were captured very close to the US/Canadian border on an island within Rainy Lake, which is near International Falls Minnesota. Unfortunately, the still camera used to create this time lapse was no where near a power source and battery power was utilized. Clearly the batteries only lasted for a short period of time before they were totally drained. Each frame is a 30 second exposure. The melody heard here is called Walking on Air. This song can be found on the compilation album Café del Mar- Volumen Tres, and the song's artist is José Padilla. Polar auroras appear to be created by solar induced disturbances in the Earths magnetic field. The sun emits an immense amount of energy from moment to moment, and a certain percentage of this energy ends up passing near the Earth. Some of this passing energy comes in the form of solar wind, which is a stream of charged particles consisting primarily of electrons and protons. It seems that solar wind passing by can cause the lines of the magnetic field to buckle back on themselves which when occurring sends charged particles funneling in towards the polar regions. The charged particles collide with the matter that is situated in both the ionosphere and magnetosphere of the upper atmosphere. These collisions produce reactions that cause energy to be released in the form of light, which can be seen from the ground below. The light given off in these reactions typically appear as diffuse globular structures that drift and linger through the sky, many times other formations will occur as well such as distinct pillars, short lived fluffy puffs, and striking curtains that constantly fold and wave as they dance high above the observer. One may see a variety of colors in the polar auroras, and these variations are created by the different elements that present during the afore described collisions of charged particles. Green and red hues are usually generated by reactions with Oxygen and blue to violet hues are usually resulting from reactions with ionic nitrogen (sometimes low level reds and purples are from molecular nitrogen). Auroral displays always coincide with peaks in solar activity. It is note worthy to mention that auroras are most prevalent around the autumnal and vernal equinoxes. During those times it appears that there is a some sort of alignment with magnetic forces between the Earth and Sun. Note: In the Southern Hemisphere a similar atmospheric phenomenon occurs but it is known as aurora australis or the southern polar lights. Note: Café del Mar is a bar located in San Antonio, Ibiza. It is very well known among tourists for the amazing perspective of the sunset that can be observed from their location. Ibiza is an island located in the Mediterranean Sea about 80 km off the coast of Spain. Kitten and his box. For those of you who think's the kitten is stuck it might do your heart some good to see my other vid of him GETTING OUT. It's just a simple thin cardboard box. So thin that they eventually rip it apart. (look at my other vid.) The kittens want to get in because they wanted to play with the tissue inside.... very expensive lab equipment, I wouldn't put them in there on purpose. Kitties playing around. Music Called "Sister Jack" by Spoon. The kitten in the background wants to get back in the box soooo bad. But this kitten took over. :p Tags: kittens cats playing play fight funny box blue grey babies |

Quick Clip...short conclusion to kitty and his box P.S. All kittens found a home in the same neighborhood as mine. Two of them live together with one family and the other three have a family each to themselves. They live happily ever after. Tags: kitty kittens box fight play |

HAARP-Holes In Heaven Pt 1 Are we making Holes in Heaven? HAARP (High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program) is a controversial high frequency radio transmitter, or "ioniospheric heater," which is believed to be descended from the works of Nikola Tesla and is operated by the U.S. Navy/Air Force and Phillip Laboratories in remote Gakona, Alaska. Using HAARP, the military can focus a billion-watt pulsed radio beam into our upper atmosphere, ostensibly for ionospheric research. This allows us to "see" into the Earth, detecting anything from oil reserves to underground missile silos. However, several researchers claim HAARP poses many dangers, including blowing thirty-mile holes in the Earth's upper atmosphere. They also warn of possible disruption of the subtle magnetic energies of our Earth and ourselves. Tags: science military technology |
