ClimateCare: Biomass Burning Stoves in India Biomass stoves save schools money and carbon: This video gives an introduction to a project promoting the use of biomass burning stoves in India. Traditionally, crop wastes in the Punjab are burnt following a harvest. Now, farmers are encouraged to gather the waste and sell it to biomass briquette producing factories. These briquettes are then used in stoves for large-scale catering as a carbon neutral fuel alternative to the expensive liquid petroleum gas, leading to more money for the farmers and biomass factories, savings for the stove owners, and less carbon in the atmosphere! Each stove saves an estimated 39 tonnes of carbon. This project won an Ashden award for sustainable energy in 2005 and is supported by ClimateCare, a world-leading carbon offsetting company (Video credit: Ashden Awards) Tags: environment carbon offsetting biomass briquette alternative fuel |

ClimateCare: Eco Stoves in Honduras Fuel-efficient stoves save wood, trees and lives: This is an introduction to a project promoting the use of environemntally friendly, fuel-efficient stoves in Honduras. These stoves need less wood to burn, thereby cutting down on deforestation, and carry smoke out of the home via a chimney, reducing respiratory diseases and cancer. Each stove saves an estimated 1.5 tonnes of carbon a year, and has led to the development of a new industry for building these stoves, thereby promoting the local economy. The project won an Ashden Award for sustainable energy in 2005, and is supported by ClimateCare, a world leading carbon offsetting company (video credit: Ashden Award) Tags: environment fuel-efficient stove Honduras deforestation |

ClimateCare: Treadle Water Pumps in India Leg-powered pumps save money and carbon: This video itroduces a project which promotes the installation and use of treadle water pumps in Uttar Pradesh, India. These pumps are driven by leg power, and so reduce farmers' reliance on hiring expensive and polluting diesel-powered pumps to irrigate their fields. Each pump saves an estimated 0.5 tonnes of carbon per year. This project won an Ashden award for sustainable energy in 2005, and is supported by ClimateCare, a world leading carbon offsetting company (video credit: Ashden Awards) Tags: environment carbon offsetting india water pump |

ClimateCare: Fuel efficient stoves in Mexico Eco fuel-efficient stoves save forests and lives: This is an introduction to a project promoting the use of fuel-efficient stoves in Mexico. These stoves need to burn less wood for the same amount of cooking, and so cut down on deforestation and the amount of harmful smoke building up in people's homes. Each stove saves an estimated 3 tonnes of carbon per year. The project won an Ashden Award for sustainable energy in 2005, and is supported by ClimateCare, a world leading carbon offsetting company (video credit: Ashden Awards) Tags: Fuel-efficient stoves mexico carbon offsetting environment |

Land Rover G4 Challenge 2008/09 The Land Rover G4 Challenge is one of the most extreme and demanding 4x4 driving contests in the world, and the 2008/09 event looks set to be no different. Over a gruelling 18 month programme, 18 national teams will battle it out to win the ultimate adventure challenge. This global adventure of a lifetime will take place in Asia, and will be fully carbon-offset thanks to the Climate Care initiative. A landmark association with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies will generate over £1 million, and a vehicle will be donated to the winning nations' Red Cross or Red Crescent National Society. The event will again have off-road driving at its core, combined with adventure sports and extreme initiative challenges for an ultimate test of team spirit and physical fitness. The entire Land Rover fleet will be involved, with the Range Rover Sport, Freelander 2 and Discovery 3 all in action as competition vehicles in the distinctive Tangiers Orange colour. Land Rover managing Director Phil Popham said "The Land Rover G4 Challenge is an incredible programme that demonstrates our products' breadth of capability and displays our desire to always push the boundaries of adventure. It is ideal to work as a fundraising and awareness building platform for a humanitarian organisation and we are delighted that we can now make the most of the Challenge's success...." Land Rover has a lasting heritage of adventure, with one of the best known expeditions run in 1970 when two Range Rovers became the first vehicles to complete a land crossing of the Darien Gap swamplands that divide North America from South America. The Land Rover G4 Challenge was inaugurated in 2003, when Belgian fighter pilot Rudi Thoelen emerged victorious from a cliff hanging finale in the Moab desert, USA. The next Challenge, in 2006, went deep into rugged, remote locations in Thailand, Laos, Brazil and Bolivia, coming to an end at an altitude of over 4000m with South African Martin Dreyer emerging victorious: "The last Challenge was an amazing experience and it was a fantastic feeling to win after such a tough competition against competitors from all around the world. I am sure that the new format, with national teams and more female competitors, will make the next Challenge even more exciting." Land Rover is committed to reducing its carbon footprint with its models and business activities. The G4 Challenge will be fully carbon offset through Land Rover's partnership with Climate Care.
