An embankment that formed the side of Lake Delton failed, sending the water poured out into a nearby neighborhood and into the Wisconsin River. (June 9)[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] [Notes:start with vids of house washing away]Parts of Wisconsin are under a state of emergency as rising flood waters do some major damage.Some of the most dramatic effects can be seen here.((Laura Moffit: It's just amazing to see the difference. This used to be full of water but now it's just sand bars.))An embankment was in place to hold back the man-made lake, but it gave out under pressure...sending nearly all the water from Lake Delton into the Wisconsin River.At least 4 homes were swept away in the process.Lake Delton...which is surrounded by about 20 resorts...is one of the state's main tourist attractions.((Moffit: This has been around for years. I grew up as a kid coming here for vacation from Chicago...It's very sad.))No injuries have been reported at this point, but residents have been encouraged to evacuate.Wisconsin's governor says the state will do everything it can make sure the area is restored quickly. Branson, Missouri Flooding This video was shot in Branson, Missouri on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 between 5pm and 6pm Central Time. Opening sequence was shot at Lakeside RV Park (aka: Branson City Campground) located just south of the Branson Landing (where the Business 65 bridge crosses over Lake Taneycomo). As you can see, Lake Taneycomo has risen over its banks and spilled into the small flood plain where this campground is located. Next sequence was shot at Stockstill Park. The raging torrent is the normally-docile Roark Creek. If you look closely, you can see that Roark Creek has also spilled over its northern banks (opposite bank from where I shot this) and is flooding a small portion of the park near one of the baseball fields. According to National Weather Service Radar estimates, Branson and surrounding areas have received between 6 to 10 inches of rain in the past 24 hours. [Notes:wisc] The village of Gays Mills, Wisconsin was inundated during the weekend, just 10 months after another devastating flood left residents working to rebuild homes and businesses. The swollen Kickapoo River engulfed nearly the entire town. Almost a quarter of the 625 residents have evacuated. The governor has declared emergencies in 31 counties. The downpours that led to all this flooding are also impacting crops. At least 438 city blocks are under water, and in some neighborhoods the water is 8 feet high. The AP's Mark Carlson has the story. (June 13)[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] An estimated 10,000 people have been evacuated from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Shelters are housing hundreds of people but most staying with family and friends.UNAMED EVACUEE"A pillow, blankets, I got gatorade, water. The shelter has really helped us out, they really supply us fairly well, they help us out pretty well, we get warm food, anything, books to read, puzzles if you want to do puzzles, anything." The Cedar river has overrun more than 400 city blocks. City streets are waterways. BRIAN FAGAN/MAYOR PRO-TEM THE PEOPLE THAT LIVED 10 BLOCKS FROM THE RIVER NEVER IMAGINED THAT THEIR PROPERTY WOULD LOOK LIKE THIS. Mercy Medical Center evacuated more than 200 patients as flood waters defeated the sand bags. The most serious patients were moved by ambulance to other area hospitals.
