The Google Lunar X PRIZE, interview with Will Pomerantz In September of 2007, Google announced it will sponsor an X Prize Foundation contest to award $20 million to the first non-governmental organization that lands a robot explorer on the moon by the year 2012. Second place and bonus prizes of $5 million each will be awarded as well, extending the competition into 2014. Lunar Eclipse in Timelapse A Timelapse film of the Total Eclipse of the Moon 3rd March 2007. Shot and edited in the same night, and uploaded to YouTube before daylight. Filmed in the night Sky above Godalming, Surrey, UK. I filmed this using a Sony PD170. The whole eclipse was filmed in real time, then speeded up in the edit. Everything is real, all the zooms and the flare happened as you see them, nothing was added in the edit. Everyshot is locked off and one pass of the moon across the screen represents about 15 minutes of real time. Note the aeroplane that passes a couple of minutes into the video. Total Lunar Eclipse - February 20, 2008 A timelapse of the total lunar eclipse on February 20th, 2008. Recorded with still images. Thanks for the feature! peteherron.com The image shakes because the moon moves during the night, obviously. It's hard to keep the moon in the exact same spot of the frame while it's constantly moving. The sound was from video that I recorded for the purpose of giving the timelapse a more real-time feel to it. Thanks for all the discussions. RIVA - Lunar RIVA - "LUNAR" The track starts with a deep bassline, accompanied with groovy drums. Gently, a piano sample enters, slowly increasing in volume. It's only one tone, but that's what makes it slightly threatening. Towards the first minor break, the bassline volume turns low, ending in a small climax. As the track continues more samples are added until the most recognizable part of the track is introduced: parts of the speech Kennedy gave to inform the people about the lunar landing. It's difficult to clearly hear this speech, as it has been sampled in various ways. Throughout the speech, most elements fade out, leaving only the higher tones. As the climax comes nearer, the other elements return one after another, the bassline being the last to return, of course. Although the pace of the track is not that high, the climax is still impressive, and so is the part thereafter. The track seems to end, again fading out all elements. But, Kennedy wasn't ready with his speech, so the track continues. The second climax is of a slightly different kind, but still fabulous! The track ends very gentle, leaving only the piano.
