Andrea Gerak & Cambridge - Rorogwela (Sunset Mix) Hungarian singer Andrea Gerak (Gerák Andrea) and Spanish composer Ángel Orós (also known as Cambridge 2003) present a song originated from Oceania, the famous Rorogwela. The melody was made well known in Sweet Lullaby, the probably most recognized song of Deep Forest, which counts as a ground breaking piece in creating the World Music genre, and is a widely adored success track, since 15 years. Their first version was followed by several remixes and Jan Garbarek also fell in love with the theme and made a jazzy saxophone piece out of it, the Pygmy Lullaby. Where the Hell is Afunakwa? I went to the Solomon Islands to research the origins of Rorogwela, a traditional folk song that was sampled in "Sweet Lullaby" by Deep Forest and reused in my dancing videos. My mom just pointed out a grammatical error in the opening. And I got the date wrong. It was on Halloween. Ah, well. If you just can't get enough, there's more detail about the Solomons on my site: http://wherethehellismatt.typepad.com/blog/2007/11/02/index.html Tags: sweet lullaby rorogwela afunakwa solomon islands baegu where hell matt harding dancing |

The song is called Rorogwela and is sung by Afunakwa. It's about a young child crying because his parents are dead. In response his older brother sings this song to comfort, as well as tell him the reality of them being orphans, with an appeal for his deceased parents to protect this child in the land of the living A great thanks goes to Celsus Eloga Talifilu, and his relatives, who helped transcribe and translate. Celsus is son of Saverio Talifilu who was the Baegu headsman that organized the recording session with Hugo Zemp which took place in 1969 in their village called Fulinui Tags: fataleka lullabye young brother Fulinui Solomon Islands strength music sevenlamps |
