Soo Line steam locomotive 353 barks up hill at Rollag MN This goes to show that a little engine can make a lot of noise! It is an ALCO built B-4 0-6-0 switch engine, built in August 1920, equipped with power reverse, Walschaert valve motion, piston valves, superheaters, and a 5000 gallon tender. It has two whistles, the larger one is a 6 chime and the smaller one is a 3 chime. The locomotive weighs 150,000 pounds, and it has a tractive effort of 31,200 pounds. It was built to operate at a pressure of 180 pounds per square inch and it continues to operate at that pressure today. WMSTR acquired the engine and modified it slightly; the superheaters were removed, and the footboard on the front was replaced with a boilertube "cow catcher". It also got a new coat of fictitious "WMSTR Railroad" paint. I am 17 years old and I helped in making this engine run for the 2006 show. Enjoy this clip, it is worth the loading time. This was a complete shock, considering that this was filmed on the EJ&E in Crest Hill, IL. I heard a train call in as S SEALPC over the scanner, but never did hear what the engine number was. A SOO Line was definitely the last thing I was expecting! Candy apple red SD60 6047 is in charge, with a really nice horn! This was a very rare sight! Please rate and comment! Pacing CP 9528 west to Wis. Dells, Soo Line SD60s at Portage On January 17, 2008 (my 22nd birthday!). Some pacing footage of CP AC4400 9528 singlehandedly hauling a westbound manifest toward Wisconsin Dells, then a runby at County Highway O just east of the resort town (unfortunately the camera was slow to focus). A poor decision cost us a better shot of Soo Line SD60s 6056 and 6035 leading another westbound at County Highway P just east of Portage, as they slowed and eventually stopped in one of the Portage Junction sidings for a crew change. Soo Line 1003 Engine Runby Soo Line 1003 2-8-2 Mikado type steam locomotive from the Soo Line Railroad. The train's caboose had just been restored and was all prepared for Santa. The video was shot in Hartford, Wisconsin just outside of the Wisconsin Automotive Museum where the engine is stored when it is not running. Filmed on November 11, 2006.
