Wurlitzer SideMan - 1950s Tube Drum Machine The Wurlitzer SideMan was arguably the world's first drum machine. It depends on whether you count the Chamberlin Rhythmate, which was introduced some years earlier, but featured tape loops instead of electronically generated drum sounds. (Please see my other videos for a demo of the Rhythmate.) In any event, the SideMan is definitely the first "beat box." I just picked this one up for $50. It's got all its guts exposed so you can see how it works. And yes, you're damn right that's a Mark Hamill poster in the background, be-atch!! Tags: side man TR-808 CR-78 Doncamatic beatbox |

Star Wars on the Wurlitzer Here's one both Star Wars and Theatre Organ fans should really enjoy. This is Jonas Nordwall playing the Throne Room and Credits from Star Wars episode IV on the 5 manual 80 Rank Wurlitzer at the Sanfilippo Victorian Palace. This was the opening of the closing concert for ATOS' first Theatre organ summer camp. I know that I will not be winning any awards for cinematography... The sound in there was incredible and cannot be reproduced very well by the camcorder and youtube... For an idea of how loud that organ is, notice the kid in the front row plugging his ears towards the end of the song lol. Phantom of the Opera on the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ (OSP, AZ) This video is a few pieces from the Phantom of the Opera being played on the mighty wurlitzer of organ stop pizza in Mesa AZ. Taken on the night of Jun 15, 2007. Sorry for the somewhat random shouting out of kids in the background, but you know it IS a family restaurant ;) Eh I know less than ideal sound and image quality but you'll just have to bear with it until I get a new camera. I liked this "segment" particularly, even considering he had already played this once before the same night. (And yes you can't see anything the first part, that's because he had the lights turned down to get the full strobe effect) (Note: This is organist Lew Williams playing, his bio and others can be found at http://www.organstoppizza.com/staff.htm ) P.S: Any more mean-spirited comments complaining about the kids will get deleted ;) Thanks for being positive Tags: wurlitzer phantom organ mesa az opera |

Jim Riggs at the Wurlitzer "Dance of the Blue Danube" Duet This is the jazzy foxtrot "Dance of the Blue Danube" and is one of my "Phantom Duets" where I enhance vintage 1920's Ampico reproducing piano rolls (in this case, one attributed to Vincent Lopez) with the incredible depth and richness of the Wurlitzer Pipe Organ. The perfect combination! (and a real gas to play, too!) Tags: Riggs Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ Danube nostalgia foxtrot jazzy Ampico Duet |
