Third Trimester Falcon Punches My response to my contest. I didn't think of making it into a contest until after I finished filming this. :P NOTE: I'm not trying to say that one should place too much stock in the results of this particular test, or any other one. One could certainly make the case that there aren't enough questions, and/or the questions are worded poorly, etc. Use it as a springboard for discussion/reflection. If you know of other tests like this, link me, and I'll include them here. I may or may not include links that go into more detail on why I feel the way I do about some of these things. If that is the kind of thing you're interested in, and you're actually reading this, let me know by leaving a comment. Feel free to ask me to elaborate on any point. This video is LONG, but I still spent an average of just over one minute per question, which doesn't leave a lot of room for depth. I also didn't rehearse or research anything before I went down the list, so these ARE NOT my "final answers", by any stretch. Let us discuss. :D here is the contest announcement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Qc5uGwTdes take the survey here: http://www.selectsmart.com/president/2008.html other survey(s): http://www.dehp.net/candidate/ cdk007: http://www.youtube.com/user/cdk007 kurtilein3 (sorry for teh screwup): http://www.youtube.com/user/kurtilein3 Instant Runoff Voting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqblOq8BmgM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N81u2yq9k2Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6U8xUdMMUM my results: 1. Election 2008 Contest (not having a camera is no excuse to not make a video! If you have Windows Movie Maker, you can slap some text together.) NOTE: I'm not trying to say that one should place too much stock in the results of this particular test, or any other one. One could certainly make the case that there aren't enough questions, and/or the questions are worded poorly, etc. Use it as a springboard for discussion/reflection. If you know of other tests like this, link me, and I'll include them here. the "original" survey (regarding this particular "contest"): http://www.selectsmart.com/president/2008.html other survey(s): http://www.dehp.net/candidate/ my response: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RD5v9SOkAZY post your results, and I'll pick one person randomly* to get one of the books off my shelf. If you live outside of the continental United States, I'll split the shipping with you and/or get you something from Amazon, I guess. :P Choices are: The Art of War by Sun Tzu A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins (hardcover or paperback) The Selfish Gene 30th Anniversary Edition by Richard Dawkins The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin The Atheists Are Revolting! by Nick Gisburne Dune by Frank Herbert Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams No, there isn't really a connection between the election and any of these books. It's just a random fun thing to do to encourage what I think is a good idea. Please make a response even if you don't want a book! cdk007 video that inspired this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5130bLv7Ys *The drawing will be weighted towards video responses. Every video response will get 5 "entries" (ie slips of paper that I will draw from a box). If you post your results in text, that gets you 1 "entry". When I do the drawing will depend on my schedule and the pace of incoming responses. It would be election day at the very latest. ;D I will make it clear via video annotations and an update to this description box when the contest is over. Here are my results from that second survey I listed: 86 Kucinich Disagreements: (1) Border Fence Unknowns/Other: (0) 66 Clinton Disagreements: (3) Death Penalty, Patriot Act, Same-Sex Marriage Unknowns/Other: (0) 64 Gravel Disagreements: (1) Border Fence Unknowns/Other: (6) ANWR Drilling, Assault Weapons Ban, Guns - Background Checks, Wiretapping, Net Neutrality, Minimum Wage Increase 61 Dodd Disagreements: (2) Death Penalty, Patriot Act Unknowns/Other: (3) Same-Sex Marriage, Same-Sex Civil Union, Universal Healthcare 60 Edwards Disagreements: (3) Death Penalty, Patriot Act, Same-Sex Marriage Unknowns/Other: (2) Kyoto, Border Fence 58 Obama Disagreements: (2) Patriot Act, Same-Sex Marriage Unknowns/Other: (2) Kyoto, Torture 55 Richardson Disagreements: (5) Death Penalty, Assault Weapons Ban, Patriot Act, Border Fence, Same-Sex Marriage Unknowns/Other: (2) ANWR Drilling, Iraq War 51 Biden Disagreements: (3) Death Penalty, Patriot Act, Same-Sex Marriage Unknowns/Other: (3) Kyoto, Same-Sex Civil Union, Universal Healthcare -5 Paul 11/1 -15 McCain 12/1 kombucha: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kombucha Tags: Hillary Clinton Barack Obama John McCain Republican Democrat Election 2008 Issues Positions Primary Comparison Convention Supporters Black White Race Ethnicity |

Another Idea for Cooperative and Collaborative Learning Share and discuss. Everything is still up for grabs. Here's the basic idea: *UC Berkeley puts ENTIRE classes on the web, and they can be downloaded for FREE. I'm eating them up, but I'd like to bounce ideas off of people and reflect/discuss things that pop up as the class goes on, but WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN KEEPING UP WITH THE CLASS, so that we're more-or-less on the same page. Kinda like a book club, I guess. What do you think?
