Cloverfield Music Video (Michael Giacchino) 'Cloverfield' (2008) is a monster movie directed by Matt Reeves, produced by J.J. Abrams and written by Drew Goddard. It is known for its viral marketing campaign starting with an untitled teaser-trailer in front of 'Transformers'. Quickly the internet was buzzing with theories as to what the film was about. Explanations ranged from Cthulu to a giant lion. When the movie finally arrived on 01-18-08 it turned out to be an interesting take on the monster-movie genre. The whole story is told from the perspective of one video camera. A guy called Hud has been given the task of taping a party thrown for his best friend Rob. But the party is interrupted by a gigantic creature attacking New York. Rob obsessed with rescuing his one and only love ventures deep into the city where the creatures are. Hud, Marlena and Lily help Rob in his quest to find Beth in a bizarre and twisted new world. The film is pretty pessimistic, gruesome and sadistic in its portrayal of the event. The music I used for this video is the official soundtrack for this movie. It is composed by Michael Giacchino and is only heard in the film during the end credits. A shame really because it is a fabulous piece of music. 'Cloverfield' and its music are the property of Paramount Pictures. Schindler's List Music Video (John Williams) Pt. 1 'Schindler's List' (1993) is Steven Spielberg's masterpiece. One of the most appreciated films of all time. Based on the novel 'Schindler's Ark' by Thomas Keneally and adapted by Steven Zaillian. This holocaust drama received seven Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director for Spielberg and Best Score for John Williams. All the earnings this film made went to Spielberg's Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation. You can find their site here: http://www.usc.edu/libraries/archives/arc/libraries/sfa/index.php The film is about the German businessman Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson), a member of the NSDAP. He's a born oppurtunist who travels from Czechoslovakia to Krakow for cheap workers. It is 1939 and the war had just begun, Schindler's plan is to start manufacturing goods for the German millitary. In order to earn his money he wants to use Jewish labourers. Thousands of them are in Krakow. Schindler secures an old factury and a work force from the Germans and starts his production. All with help from the benign Itzhak Stern (Ben Kingsley) who has contacts with the underground Jewish business community. Quickly Schindler's factory gains popularity as a safe haven for Jews. Schindler is reluctant to give in to this idea. But later is confronted with the horrors of the holocaust. When the SS clears Krakow from Jews with horrifying force, all under the lead of Amon Göth (Ralph Fiennes). Affected by these images Schindler begins his plan to save the Jews from prosecution. All cumulating into a list of Jewish labourers who are essential to production. This is my longest video yet, therefore it had to be split in two. This is the first half. The video is accompanied by John Williams Oscar winning music. With amazing violin solos by Itzhak Perlman. 'Schindler's List' and its music are property of Universal Pictures. Alien Music Video (Jerry Goldsmith) This is a music video of Ridley Scott's masterpiece 'Alien' (1979) with the great creepy music created by composer Jerry Goldsmith. In the year 2122 a lone interstellar towing-vehicle is on its way to Earth. The voyage is interrupted by a distress single sent from an alien planet. The crew of seven touch down on the planet and investigate the origin of the signal. They find an alien vehicle crashed into the surface and when they enter it crewman Kane (John Hurt) becomes infected by an alien life form. Later the crew that is left will have to fight for their survival against a formidable enemy. The film stars Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, John Hurt, Veronica Cartwright, Ian Holm, Harry Dean Stanton, Yaphet Kotto and Bolaji Badejo as the alien. The film is a hallmark in cinema as one of the scariest science-fiction movies ever made. Jerry Goldsmith's music captures the isolation, fear and wonder of this film perfectly. I hope that you will all appreciate this tribute to a great film. 'Alien' and its music are property of 20th Century Fox. Gremlins 2 Music Video (Jerry Goldsmith) Joe Dante's 'Gremlins 2: The New Batch' is certainly one of the wackiest sequels ever made. It has a huge amount of self referencing comedy, slapstick and some really creepy scenes. This light hearted sequel to the 1984 horror/comedy 'Gremlins' takes place in a New York office building. Ran by millionair Daniel Clamp (John Glover)it has everything from a cable network to a genetics lab which is leaded by the great Christopher Lee as Dr. Catheter. When Gizmo's owner Mr. Wing (Key Luke) passes away the poor Mogwai is taken to the Clamp Center. There he is found by none other but Billy Peltzer (Zach Galligan) and Kate Beringer (Phoebe Cates) who try to keep him safe. However Gizmo doesn't obey and within minutes he spawns a new batch of evil Mogwais headed by the reincarnation of Stripe: Mohawk. And soon enough the Clamp Center is overrun by Gremlins, who seem to be very sensitive to genetic manipulation. The soundtrack is once again from Jerry Goldsmith, who delivers an inventive and really wacky score. 'Gremlins 2: The New Batch' and its soundtrack are property of Warner Bros. Studios. Empire of the Sun Music Video (John Williams) 'Empire of the Sun' (1987) is a film directed by Steven Spielberg starring a young Christian Bale, John Malkovich and Miranda Richardson. The screenplay by Tom Stoppard is an adaptation of James Graham Ballard's book of the same name. His own youth inspired Ballard to write about an English boy called Jamie Graham (Bale) who lives in Shanghai. Jamie dreams of becoming a pilot and is a collector of model planes. In 1941 the Japanese invade and he is separated from his parents when they tried to escape. He's on his own until he meets Basie (Malkovich) who reluctantly looks after him. After a while they get caught by the Japanese and are send to Soochow Creek, an internment camp. Here Jamie struggles to stay friends with Basie and shows a remarkable knack for survival. The airfield next to the camp immediately catches his interest and Jamie develops great respect for the Japanese kamikaze pilots. This is a very touching film which has been overshadowed by Spielberg's other World War II films: 'Schindler's List' and 'Saving Private Ryan'. But it is possibly one of the best films he ever directed. Christian Bale's performance is stunning and a hallmark in his career. John Williams is beautiful and captures Jamie's feelings really well. So please enjoy this video. 'Empire of the Sun' and its soundtrack are property of Warner Bros. Studios. Duel Music Video (Billy Goldenberg) One of my favorite movies; 'Duel' (1971) was Steven Spielberg's public debute as a film director. It was a TV movie based on a story by Richard Matheson that appeared in Playboy Magazine. The story is very simple: David Mann (Dennis Weaver) has an appointment but encounters an old tank truck, he decides to overtake it. The trucker then begins his deadly game. The music was composed by Billy Goldenberg and captures the primal emotions of the film really well. Gremlins Music Video (Jerry Goldsmith) After a month off from making videos I decided to get to work once more. This time with a music video of 'Gremlins' (1984). This is one of my favorite movies ever, and great for the Christmas season. The movie is based on a script written by a young Chris Columbus who sold it to Steven Spielberg. The story was a lot darker back then, but when Spielberg asked Joe Dante to direct the project took a whole different turn. Dante discovered how funny the creatures could be and decided to make it a horror/comedy. 'Gremlins' is about an inventor named Randal Peltzer (Hoyt Axton) who buys his son Billy (Zach Galligan) a special gift for Christmas. A Mogwai called Gizmo. It comes with three simple rules; don't expose it to sunlight or it will die, don't get it wet and most importantly never feed it after midnight. Of course it is bound to go wrong and within days the town of Kingston Falls is overrun by little green monsters; Gremlins! The soundtrack was composed and conducted by the famed Jerry Goldmsith. This must be one of his most creative music ever, with the touching Gizmo theme, the quirky town theme and the memorable Gremlin Rag. A special thanks goes out to Aldabarran for supplying the soundtrack. Poltergeist Music Video After exorcizing my own poltergeists from all my free time I could finally finish my newest music video: 'Poltergeist' (1982) is a classic horror film officially directed by Tobe Hooper and conceived and produced by Steven Spielberg. There is some debate about who actually directed this movie but Spielberg's influence is very apparent. The movie is about the Freeling family living in the perfect suburban town. But then the youngest of the family, Carol Anne (the late Heather O'Rourke), begins to talk to the television. Soon after the house is terrorized by poltergeists who want to get their ghostly hands on the little girl. Now it's up to her parents (Jobeth Williams and Craig T. Nelson) to save her and find out why their house is being invaded. The song is 'No Fear' by The Rasmus. 'Poltergeist' is property of MGM and 'No Fear' is property of The Rasmus. The Last Crusade Music Video The fourth Indy film, 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull', wrapped just a few days ago. So here's my music video of the third installment, 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' from 1989. As always directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by George Lucas. It stars Harrison Ford, Sean Connery, Denholm Elliot and many more. For his third on-screen adventure Jones is looking for his dad who has gone missing. The relationship has never been very strong between them ever since Indy's mother died. Henry Jones Sr. (Connery) is obsessed with the Holy Grail. A cup which supposedly belonged to Jesus Christ and gives everyone who drinks from it eternal life. An American businessman, Walter Donovan (Julian Glover) makes a deal with the Nazis and have captured Indiana's father. Together they must stop the Third Reich from obtaining the Holy Grail. War of the Worlds Music Video (John Williams) 'War of the Worlds' (2005) is the third part in Steven Spielberg's unofficial Alien Trilogy. In 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' and 'E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial' he was telling about benevolent aliens. But this time they're all but friendly... The story is based on the book by H.G.Wells. Which has been adapted into a radio broadcast by Orson Welles in 1938 and caused considerable panic, made into a movie by George Pal and Byron Haskins in 1953, in 1978 it was turned into a musical by Jeff Wayne and used for a series in the '80s. All in all it is a rich history for a story that was beyond its time considering it was written in 1898. The movie stars Tom Cruise, Dakota Fanning, Justin Chatwin, Tim Robbins, Miranda Otto and is narrated by Morgan Freeman. Ray Ferrier (Cruise) is a divorced father who rarely spends time with his son Robbie (Chatwin) and daughter Rachel (Fanning). When his kids come over to his home in New Jersey the Earth is invaded by beings from another world. In a second their lives have been destroyed. Ray must protect his children not only from the alien threat but also from the people around them. This film has influenced me very much and still holds a special place for me. The novel had been a favourite from my youth. And seeing it on the big screen created by my favourite director was, as cheesy as it may sound, a dream come true. The film's harsh realism and rich metaphors make it in my opinion one of the best alien invasion movies in history. This video is a tribute not only to the movie but also to the music which was composed and conducted by John Williams. I hope you will all enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed making it. Thank you very much. These are the tracks used in the video: 1. Reaching the Country 2. The Ferry Scene 3. The Epilogue 4. Return to Boston 5. Munich Music Video (John Williams) 5 September 1972, Munich. A group of Palestinian terrorists take eleven Israeli athletes hostage at the Summer Olympics. 6 September, five of eight terrorist, one German police officer and all eleven athletes are dead. 'Munich', a film by Steven Spielberg, is about Israel's response: Operation Wrath of God. The film isn't entirely true, what happened in Munich is real but the response is partly fictional. This video is a tribute to one of the most interesting films I've ever seen. The music is composed and conducted by long time Spielberg collaborate John Williams. This film is a tragic view on terrorism and how to respond to those acts of violence. 'Munich' and its music are property of Universal Studios. The Lost World Music Video: Redux The Lost World? Again? Yes, indeed again. You know, I've never been so happy with my first 'The Lost World' music video so I decided to give it another shot. Some parts of it stayed the same but I rearranged the clips and put a new song in it. 'No More Sorrow' by Linkin Park. Also this time the video has a bit more meaning. I thought the song represented that very well. What I'm trying to say is that this video is revolving around the character John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), the creator of Jurassic Park, and Peter Ludlow, Hammond's greedy nephew. Ludlow wants to capture the animals and bring them to San Diego where a new Jurassic Park is being build. But he finds out that not everyone gets away from toying with nature. I hope you'll like the improvements I've made. 'The Lost World: Jurassic Park' is property of Universal Studios and 'No More Sorrow' is property of Linkin Park. Temple of Doom Music Video The second part of the Indiana Jones series with a fourth part well under way. 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom' is infamous as being one of the two films which demanded a new rating from the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), the second movie being Joe Dante's 'Gremlins'. Spielberg who directed 'Temple of Doom' and produced 'Gremlins' lobbied for the creation of a new rating which is now known as PG-13. The story's set before the events of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'. This time Indy along with a club singer called Willie and his sidekick called Shortround must find a magic stone which has been stolen from an Indian tribe. When they do so they come across the Thuggee, a Indian cult with extremely aggressive rituals. Their leader, a priest called Mola Ram, wants to unite five Sankara stones. Now that he has the fourth he lets children dig in mines in search of the fifth. The music is 'Everlong' a song by the Foo Fighters. To me 'Temple of Doom' is the lesser of three Indiana Jones movies. My favorite being 'Raiders', but it's still a great adventure movie for all of us to enjoy. 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom' is property of Paramount Pictures. 'Everlong' is property of the Foo Fighters. The Brain Gremlin Sings! This is just a little gag I did yesterday. I though it would be fun to make the Brain Gremlin sing a different song than Sinatra's 'New York, New York' as he did in the film. The footage is from 'Gremlins 2: The New Batch' and also includes a bit of deleted shots. The music is 'Blood' a really off-beat song by My Chemical Romance. This video is dedicated to director Joe Dante who directed both Gremlin movies and also some '80s classics such as 'The 'Burbs', 'Innerspace', 'Explorers', 'The Howling' and a segment of 'The Twilight Zone Movie'. More recently he has directed wacky films such as 'Small Soldiers' and 'Looney Tunes: Back in Action'. But I'll always remember him as a great horror/comedy director. Hook Music Video ''What would the world be like without Captain Hook?'' Hook (1991) is one of Spielberg's films that's commonly considered a flaw. For the record, I don't agree with that. Simply because it brings back many childhood memories, I loved it as a kid. Now I see that it has flaws, big flaws, but it's still one of those movies I can't get enough of. Dustin Hoffman's comical performance as Captain Jas Hook isn't exactly how I imagined the character when I read the original book but it's still enjoyable. Robin Williams was the right choice for Peter Banning/Pan. The story is based the question: 'What if Peter Pan grew up?' The answer is that he would become a work-aholic and missed every chance at spending time with his family. Luckily Captain Hook hasn't forgotten about Pan and kidnappes his kids in order to challenge Peter for the final duel. The reason why I chose the song 'Learn To Fly' must be quite obvious to all of you. 'Hook' is property of TriStar Pictures, 'Learn To Fly is property of the Foo Fighters. Raiders of the Lost Ark Music Video 'From the Greed of Kings, to the Wrath of God!' The first part in the Indiana Jones Trilogy 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' (1981) is here as my newest music video. This collaboration between Starwars ceator George Lucas and Steven Spielberg is known as one the best adventure movies around. The story's about an archeologist called Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) who, in his free time, goes after lost treasures. This time he's trying to stop a French collegue René Belloq (Paul Freeman) from obtaining the Ark of the Covenant which is said to be a direct link between God and man. But this is not just a personal duel because the faith of the free world is at stake because Belloq is working for Adolf Hitler himself who's obsessed with occult and wants the Ark for his own purposes... In this video I tried to focus on the rivalry between Jones and Belloq. The music used is 'No Way Back' from the Foo Fighters, and of course for the ending John Williams' masterpiece 'The Raider's March'. Enjoy! 'Indiana Jones' is property of Paramount Pictures. Catch Me If You Can Music Video 'Catch Me If You Can' is based on the true story of a man called Frank Abagnale Jr. Frank (Leonardo DiCaprio) ran away from home and then went on to become successful in forgery and frauds all before his eighteenth birthday. Abagnale posed as a teacher, pilot, a doctor, a FBI agent and a lawyer. He used false cheques to get his money and travelled around the world for free. In the film he's chased by the fictitious Carl Hanratty, an FBI agent played by Tom Hanks. The movie is a fun mix between humour, drama and tension with superb acting by people like DiCaprio, Hanks, Martin Sheen and above all Christopher Walken. It was directed by Steven Spielberg in 2002. The music I used is 'Feeling Good' by Muse. The film 'Catch Me If You Can' is property of Dreamworks SKG. 'Feeling Good' is property of Muse. Which is one of my personal favourites, because it deals with a very personal struggle of the main characters opposite to a larger than life event. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial Music Video E.T. may be the best movie Steven Spielberg has ever made. And according to some the definition of movie-making as a whole. It's the touching story of a lonely boy who finds a stranded alien who's left behind by his comrads. Quickly their friendship blossoms until the boy realises his friend needs to go home. The film was released in 1982 (this year will be the twenty-fifth anniversary) and was re-released in 2002 with some extra touches. This clip is a tribute to a classic in movie-making history.
