Jeru the Damaja - You cant stop the prophet by http://www.truehiphop.tv Jeru the Damaja - You cant stop the prophet/1994 Jeru the Damaja (pronounced as "Damager", born Kendrick Jeru Davis) is an MC from Brooklyn, New York. He has worked extensively with Guru and DJ Premier of Gang Starr, whom he has known since high school. He spent his early years in the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn, where he has been rapping at block parties since the early days of his youth. He first showcased his hardcore Brooklyn style to audiences on "I'm the Man," a track from Gang Starr's 1992 album Daily Operation. The following year he released his first single, "Come Clean", which was produced by DJ Premier and became an instant underground hit. His first album, The Sun Rises in the East, released in 1994, and produced entirely by DJ Premier, is considered a classic, and was one of the most acclaimed Hip Hop albums of its time. As an interesting side note, the album cover shows the World Trade Center on fire, long before September 11, 2001 attacks. The album featured Jeru's signature conscious lyrics, however he was criticized by The Fugees for his explicit lyrics particularly, in the song "Da Bichez". Fugees member Pras lightly mentioned Jeru on the track "Zealots", from the group's landmark 1996 album The Score, with the line "No matter who you damage, you're still a false prophet", referencing Jeru's single "You Can't Stop the Prophet". Jeru lightly responded in the intro to the track Me or The Papes. Jeru followed up in 1996 with his sophomore album Wrath of the Math again produced solely by DJ Premier. LL Cool J - Jingling Baby by http://www.truehiphop.tv LL Cool J - Jingling Baby/1989 LL Cool J, an acronym for Ladies Love Cool James, has admitted that he would buy hip hop records to get the label's address so he could send his demo tapes. Afterwards, he then sent a tape to Def Jam. Ad Rock of the Beastie Boys found his tape while hanging out in Rick Rubin's dorm room and convinced Rick & Russell Simmons to sign LL Cool J. He was signed to Def Jam in 1984 and released the underground hit "I Need a Beat" (see 1984 in music). The song was the first hit record for Def Jam, and its success persuaded him to drop out of school to record Radio (1985). Tags: LL Cool J Jingling Baby rap hiphop truehiphop oldschool |

Spice 1 - Strap on the side by http://www.truehiphop.tv Spice 1 - Strap on the side 1994. Spice 1 (born Robert L. Green, Jr. in Corsicana, Texas), is a West Coast rapper raised in Hayward, California. He was first discovered by rapper Too $hort. His first album, Let It Be Known, was not well-known or widely released, and included seven old-school style tracks. His second album, widely considered as his debut, was a very vivid and fatalistic Gangsta rap album, and his angry, edgy, and pessimistic rapping style and tone only added to the despair emanating from the disc.
