The Gurus - Big Sea Barcelona based pop outfit The Gurus put out a mini-album on the very cool Spanish label, Bip Bip. It was liked so much by Radio Quartz Records that they asked the band and label if they would record a bunch of new songs to fill out a full-length LP -- the result is the self titled worldwide debut from The Gurus. The album is brimming over with Revolver-esque psychedelia, power-pop, pure guitar pop and jangle that brings to mind such a diverse mixture as Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Firefall, Little River Band and even, Oasis. Sounds impossible, but you have to hear this wonderful for yourself. The Gurus mix and match pure pop perfection, British psychedelia, modernist Mersey-beat and rock electronics. http://www.myspace.com/thegurusbcn - Tags: The Gurus Barcelona Spain Pop Guitar psychedelia power beatles byrds indie BipBip Records Bip |

The Cult - Brother Wolf, Sister Moon THE CULT are an English rock band who's origins can be traced back to 1981, in Bradford, Yorkshire, where vocalist and songwriter Ian Astbury formed a band called the "Southern Death Cult". In April 1983, Astbury teamed up with guitarist Billy Duffy, of Theatre of Hate, and formed the band "Death Cult". The band also included Jamie Stewart on bass. To tone down the gothic connotations of their name and gain broader appeal the band changed its name to "The Cult" in January 1984 before appearing on the television show, The Tube. Over the years the band have had various line-ups; the longest serving band members are vocalist Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy, both of whom are the band's songwriters. In their very earliest days, the band emerged as one of the progenitors of the budding post-punk music scene that was happening in England. Their music style was associated by the media with gothic rock, taking influences from the mysticism associated with Native Americans and psychedelic rock acts such as The Doors. It was after re-locating to London and releasing their album Love that the Cult gained a larger audience, charting at #4 in the United Kingdom and producing popular singles such as She Sells Sanctuary and Rain. Following this the band moved away from their original sound, adopting a more hard rock approach; with the release of the album Electric and the single Love Removal Machine they broke into the North American market, their 1989 effort Sonic Temple also proved to be a huge commercial success. The band were fraying behind the scenes, due to alcohol abuse and off-stage tensions during the early 1990s. In early 1995, the Cult split up, citing unspecified problems on a South American tour. Between 1999 and 2002, the band reformed to record the album Beyond Good and Evil, and reissued all of their albums in Asia and eastern Europe in 2003 and Japan in 2004. In 2006, the band reformed again to perform a series of worldwide tours, and a number of dates were captured for posterity by InstantLive. In October 2007, the band released a new album Born Into This, on the Roadrunner Records label. Prior to the album's release, the band played festival and headline dates, and supported The Who, in Europe through summer 2007, with a U.S. headline tour to follow. Electrafixion - Feel My Pulse Electrafixion were formed in Liverpool, Merseyside, England, in 1994, by two former members of Echo And The Bunnymen, Will Sergeant (guitar) and Ian McCulloch (vocals, guitar). The demise of Echo And The Bunnymen had been followed by a period of bitterness between the two, but with McCulloch's solo career stalling after a good start, they started working together again. Tony McGuigan (drums) and Leon DeSilva (bass) were also in the band. Their first low-key concerts together occurred in summer 1994, and were followed by the EP Zephyr in November. McCulloch's voice remained distinctive, while the musical backdrop owed a great deal to the intensity of the 90s grunge movement. Their album, Burned, was produced by Mark Stent and featured 11 McCulloch/Sergeant originals, plus two co-compositions with Johnny Marr (ex-Smiths). Electrafixion joined the Boo Radleys on tour in October 1995. Their future was curtailed by the re-formation of Echo And the Bunnymen in 1997. The Primitives - Ticket To Ride There was once an idea for Morrissey to perform Ticket To Ride with The Primitives. He was a big fan of The Primitives in their earlier days. In the end, Morrissey felt it wasn't "stylish at all, singing with other people" and also didn't want to do Ticket To Ride. But, I'm glad The Prims did it because it sounds so wonderfully raw and bombastic. May 16, 1987; Munster Odeon, Germany -crashsite.org . X - Devil Doll X is a noted punk rock band, formed in Los Angeles in 1977. While they achieved only limited mainstream success, they were widely considered one of the most accessible and tuneful of Los Angeles' many punk bands. Their landmark 1980 record Los Angeles resonated so loudly with the artisans of the city it is named after, that the band received an Official Certificate of Recognition from the City of Los Angeles in acknowledgment of their important contributions to Los Angeles music and culture. They were hugely influential on various genres of music, including punk, hardcore, and folk. Original members were Exene Cervenka, John Doe, Billy Zoom, and DJ Bonebrake. After Zoom retired from the band, Dave Alvin, then Tony Gilkyson replaced him on guitar. Zoom reunited with X in 1998.
