Hockey moms shouldn't throw rocks John McCain and Sarah Palin have made it clear that their only shot at salvaging this election is by going full-bore negative against Barack Obama with despicable, disgraceful and dishonorable smears. Keith: "The Governor of Alaska wants to start calling people terrorists -- and insisting of Senator Obama that quote "this is not a man who sees America like you and I see America" -- and whose rhetoric like that and the "pallin' around with terrorists" line were rightly described by the Associated Press yesterday as a wolf-in-sheep's-clothing kind of way of slipping racism into the equation because it's a nifty trick to remind the white folk that (psst) Obama is black. But overriding this sleaziness -- and dog-gone it, the Governor of Alaska has got to be the sleaziest politician working the stage at the moment -- there is the sheer blessed stupidity of letting herself become the bomb-thrower when her own life is full of domestic terrorists. Governor -- Bill Ayres? Your hubby was in this secessionist hate group for which you recorded a video. Governor -- Jeremiah Wright? That pastor you credit with helping you become Governor, is either a con man or a psycho who believes he can tell which woman in the village is the witch and which is the governor." Obama: McCain trying to 'hoodwink' public with smears Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama lashed out at his opponent's campaign Sunday, depicting John McCain as more interested in attacking Obama's character than solving the economic crisis. Even after Congress passed a $700 billion bailout signed by President Bush, the next president will face daunting housing and credit problems. "Yet instead of addressing these crises, Senator McCains campaign has announced that they plan to 'turn the page' on the discussion about our economy and spend the final weeks of this campaign launching Swiftboat-style attacks on me," Obama said. "...We're not going to let John McCain distract us, we're not going to let him hoodwink you," Obama said. The McCain campaign shifted gears recently, with a campaign strategist saying it will spend the last month of the election focused on criticisms of Obama. Sarah Palin kicked off that effort Saturday with a speech that accused Obama of "palling around with terrorists," referencing his alleged connection to 1960s radical Bill Ayers. The campaign has stepped up attacks after Obama widened his lead in the wake of the debates to eight points. Polls continue to show more Americans trust Obama to deal with the financial meltdown than McCain, the Baltimore Sun reported. "Senator McCain and his operatives are gambling that he can distract you with smears rather than talk to you about substance," Obama said. "They'd rather try to tear our campaign down than lift this country up." "It's what you do when you're out of touch, out of ideas and running out of time," Obama said at a campaign event in Asheville, north carolina. Ifill: Conservatives used me to change the subject Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin had announced during Thursday's debate that she "may not answer the questions that either the moderator or you want to hear." In other words, she "blew me off I think is the technical term," moderator Gwen Ifill of PBS said Sunday. Palin avoided answering questions 10 times by being non-specific or simply pivoting away to another issue, Politico reported. ( http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14235.html ) Ifill explained to NBC's Tom Brokaw how the event had been presented beforehand compared to what actually happened on stage. She said that if the candidates decide they are not going to debate one another, "there is very little a moderator can do other than say, 'No, no, no, listen, please answer the question." Ifill also related the difficulty of having been thrust into the media spotlight when prior to the debate, conservatives called for Ifill to be replaced as the debate moderator because she is writing a book partially about Obama. "What I discovered this week, in an uncomfortable way, is that when they throw everything in the mix to change the subject that you can get in the way. I got in the way of it this week. It was an interesting -- I kind of didn't pay attention to a lot of it -- but it was interesting to realize that if changing the subject from the stakes of vice president meant talking about the moderator instead of talking about the candidate, they would do that. If that meant raising questions about anything else that's out there -- which is why if you leard one thing about this campaign is every week it will be something else." But O'Reilly starts misquoting Frank and yelling at him as Frank tries to explain the previous years building up to this. O'Reilly proves why no one considers him a journalist. Frank has enough and says: "Your Stupidity Gets In The Way Of Rational Discussion." And Frank also says: "You Think That Toughness Is Yelling And Ranting And Trying To Bully." Sarah Palin: Katie Couric "annoyed" me Sarah Palin attacks Katie Couric over her inability to answer basic questions. Pathetic. Why not do interviews on the Sunday talk shows if she really wants to express her ideas? Palin is still refusing to do interviews with reporters who don't work for Fox News. It's always a desperate attack to criticize the media. Palin is out of her league and needs to step down so McCain can have a qualified running mate. 5 of 7 have less favorable view of Palin after debate The challenge for any presidential campaign a month before the election is to win over the remaining undecided voters. Going by the reactions of a group of seven uncommitted female voters from swing states interviewed by NBC News following Thursday night's vice-presidential debate, Sarah Palin fell far short of achieving that goal. Only two of the women were willing to say they had been favorably impressed by Palin's performance, while the other five indicated they were disappointed or had come away with a less favorable opinion. In contrast, all seven hands went up when they were asked who now had a more favorable view of Joe Biden. Biden responds to Palin's callous comment Joe Biden responds to Sarah Palin's callous comment. Biden: Look, I understand what its like to be a single parent. When my wife and daughter died and my two sons were gravely injured, I understand what its like as a parent to wonder what its like if your kids going to make it. I understand what its like to sit around the kitchen table with a father who says, Ive got to leave, champ, because theres no jobs here. I got to head down to Wilmington. And when we get enough money, honey, well bring you down. But the notion that somehow, because Im a man, I dont know what its like to raise two kids alone, I dont know what its like to have a child youre not sure is going to — is going to make it — I understand. Palin doesn't have a response to that. All she can do is repeat RNC talking points about a "Maverick" who votes with Bush 90% of the time. Palin: 'Duck hunting' accident was Cheney's worst action CBS' Katie Couric recently asked Sarah Palin and Joe Biden what were the best and worst things Dick Cheney had done as vice president. During the interview, Gov. Palin claimed that his worst mistake was the infamous "duck hunting" accident that left Cheney's lawyer, Harry Whittington, with shotgun pellets embedded in his face and neck. Palin can't name a Supreme Court case Wow, I'm speechless. CBS News anchor Katie Couric asked Joe Biden and Sarah Palin some "Vice Presidential Questions." This installment tackles Roe v. Wade and Supreme Court decisions. If you think this woman should be allowed anywhere near the White House you need to get help. ==On Roe== "Immediately after saying what a terrible decision Roe was, Palin got a follow-up question from Couric about whether she believes there's a constitutional 'right to privacy'. "And Palin said, yes. "Now, narrowly speaking, you can believe in a constitutional right to privacy and also oppose Roe. But the right to privacy, as Couric says in the interview, is one of the cornerstones of Roe. And in the public debate yes or no on the right to privacy is something pretty close to a proxy for your position on abortion rights." The bottom line is that among conservatives opposition to a constitutional 'right to privacy' is a straight-up litmus test issue. Palin not only didn't have the right answer on the right to privacy. It was pretty clear she'd never even heard of it before." From: http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/221281.php ==On other decisions== Couric: "What other Supreme Court decisions do you disagree with?" Palin: "Of course, in the great history of America there have been rulings that there's never going to be absolute consensus by every American, and...there are those issues, again, like Roe v. Wade, where I believe are best held on a state level and addressed there. So, you know, going through the history of ... America... there would be others" Couric: "Can you think of any?" Palin: "Well, I would think of any, again, that could best be dealt with on a more local level [that] maybe I would take issue with, but...you know, as a mayor, and then as a governor, and even as a vice president, if I'm so privileged to serve, [I] wouldn't be in a position of changing those things, but in supporting the law of the land as it reads today." Palin on which newspapers she reads: Um, all of them. Tonight on the CBS Evening News, host Katie Couric asked Sarah Palin which sources she relies on for her news consumption. Three separate times, Couric tried to elicit a response from Palin about which specific newspapers she reads. Seemingly caught off guard, Palin could not name a single news source: COURIC: And when it comes to establishing your world view, I was curious, what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this — to stay informed and to understand the world? PALIN: Ive read most of them again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media — COURIC: But what ones specifically? Im curious. PALIN: Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years. COURIC: Can you name any of them? PALIN: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news. Palin explains comment about Biden's age If elected to be U.S. President, John McCain (72 years old) will be the OLDEST EVER elected. Sarah Palin, McCain's running mate, criticized VP canidate Joe Biden's age. Biden is 65, 7 years younger than McCain. Just listen to her response to Katie Couric's question. She's a moron who makes George W. Bush look like Albert Einstein. Palin: Oh no, it's nothing negative at all. He's got a lot of experience and just stating the fact there, that we've been hearing his speeches for all these years. So he's got a tremendous amount of experience and, you know, I'm the new energy, the new face, the new ideas and he's got the experience based on many many years in the Senate and voters are gonna have a choice there of what it is that they want in these next four years. Palin says voter question is 'gotcha journalism' On Monday night, CBS' Katie Couric talked to John McCain and Sarah Palin about their apparent disagreement on attacking terrorists within Pakistan. Echoing the words of a voter who asked Palin a similar question, the VP candidate turned the question on end, equating questions from the public to "gotcha journalism." Couric, referring to Palin's support for attacking Pakistan, which is similar to Democratic nominee Barack Obama, asked whether she and McCain are on the same page. During the first presidential debate, McCain chastised Obama for stating the plan out loud. Playing off his running-mate's seeming strategic slip, Couric asked McCain if she had made the right move. John McCain didn't stop his campaign Jeffrey Toobin: Well, can I just quarrel with the premise of this? Who says he suspended his campaign? He didnt suspend his campaign. Hes been campaigning all day. He gave a speech in New York. Hes giving interviews all night. Hes raising money. His surrogates are attacking Barack Obama. I think this is posturing of being apolitical. And, frankly, I think were being kind of gullible in falling for it. He didnt stop his campaign. Hes campaigning. Now whether its successful or not HAYES: Hes pulled his ads down, too, Wolf. TOOBIN: No, he didnt pull his ads down. His ads have been on. And hes done exactly what Obama has done all day. And Obama admits that hes campaigning. Its the middle of the campaign. I dont see why we should treat what hes doing as anything different from what Obama is doing. Sarah Palin's links to witch-hunting pastor Columnist Clarence Page told Keith Olbermann on Wednesday's Countdown that it is "remarkable" that Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin's conenction with a witch-hunting Kenyan pastor hasn't gotten more attention, especially compared with the flap last spring over Barack Obama's own pastor problem. "Only after Senator Obama ran for national office," noted Page, "do we see, what, thirty seconds of video from Reverend Wright all over the news, giving us the impression of a firebrand and the image of Obama as some kind of a black nationalist or something. We don't see any of that with Sarah Palin. It's really quite remarkable to me." Palin has linked Kenyan pastor Thomas Muthee's prayer over her at the Assembly of God Church in Wasilla in 2005, calling for the success of her campaign, with her victory the following year in the Alaska gubernatorial race. Murthee began his ministry in 1989, when he accused a local woman who ran a "divination center" of being a witch, blamed her for causing a series of fatal car accidents, and eventually caused her to be run out of town. According to the Times of London, "After Pastor Muthee declared Mama Jane a witch, the townspeople became suspicious and began to turn on her, demanding that she be stoned. Public outrage eventually led the police to raid her home, where they fired gunshots, killing a pet python which they believed to be a demon." Cafferty: Don't cancel the debate Now is precisely the time for Senators McCain and Obama to have a debate, charged CNN's Jack Cafferty this afternoon. Furthermore, he said, if the ongoing wars are any indication, President Bush is not the salesman to pitch the proposed Wall Street bailout. Now they are trying to push back the Palin-Biden debate too! McCain hasn't even voted in the Senate in 5 months and today was meeting with fundraisers. People see through this ploy.
