General Hospital - Sept 1998 - Alan's Drug Addiction Part 34 Part 34. Edward asks Justus what's going on. Justus apologizes to Edward for accusing him of maneuvering him with Damian's murder. Edward takes Justus in and pleads with him to leave Jason and get back to ELQ. He misses Justus. Justus tells him he can't come back. They both remember Mary Mae. Edward still thinks about her. Edward wants to be a part of his life again. A sad Edward listens to a Mary Mae song while Justus contemplates his future on the balcony of his penthouse. Dara, after having sex with Taggart, asks Taggart for a favour. Burn the tape. This clip contains one of my favourite Edward scenes. We sometimes forget that Justus is his grandson. This reinforces Edward as the patriarch of the Q's and he does love his family...even if he doesn't show it all the time. John Ingle rocks! General Hospital - Sept 1998 - Alan's Drug Addiction Part 33 Part 33. Bobbie and Monica worry about Carly's potential release. The grandmothers worry about Jason, Robin, Michael and Carly. Dara tells Justus to disappear, to leave while there's still time. Justus visits Laura to try to clear the air between them. He stands where Mary Mae's rose garden used to be and remembers his grandmother. He appologizes to Laura. Laura believes he's already paying for his crime. Dara visits Taggart and not for business. Laura tells Justus that it sounds like he's going away. Next, Justus visits Edward at the mansion. Edward reacts with hostility toward him but Justus says he's there to thank him. He doesn't know she's disgusted with herself for turning on Justus. Monica tries to reassure him that she isn't judging him. She almost gives herself up. Dara meets Justus at his penthouse. She tells him about the tape. Justus tells her what happened the night Damian Smith was killed. Bobbie reads a letter from Carly to Monica. Bobbie tells Monica that Carly is faking her insanity to get out of standing trial for murder. They worry about what would happen if she got out... what she'd do to Robin, Jason and Michael. Dara accuses Taggart of not keeping to his promise of waiting 48 hours. Justus pays Monica a visit not realizing that because of Monica, Taggart has the tape of his confession. Justus senses Monica's uneasiness in his company and thinks it's because she's disgusted about him killing Damian. Dara thinks Taggart is testing her. General Hospital - Sept 1998 - Alan's Drug Addiction Part 30 Part 30. Alan wants to try out the plumbing with Tammy the friendly prostitute. He's still on the pills. Unfortunately, the pills have stopped up the pipes so he's unable to perform. Alan returns home to an unsuspecting Monica and pretends to have been at a meeting of Narcotics Anonymous. Taggert tips Dara off that Justus has been caught on tape confessing to Damian's murder. She doesn't approve of Taggart threatening Monica and is apalled that Mac is supporting Taggart. General Hospital - Aug 1998 - Alan's Drug Addiction Part 29 Part 29. Monica looks sadly at a family photo that includes Jason and AJ. AJ walks in and they talk about Michael and his safety. AJ wants to talk to Edward about how badly he's handled things with Jason. He says Jason needs to trust them but Edward keeps sabotaging them. Monica tells AJ that he'll handle it. Taggart calls and tells Monica he's coming over now. He comes over and Monica tries to bribe him with a case of money. He refuses the bribe and threatens to call the Medical Review Board. Monica calls his bluff and tells him to do whatever he wants. She starts to leave the room but turns back to get her purse. Taggart notices this and stops her, grabs the purse and finds the tape inside. Monica gets upset but Edward walks in wondering why Taggart spends so much time there instead of at the station. Taggart tells him he's there to question them about Jason. Edward blusters to Lila and Monica about Jason, the hoodlum. Monica gets upset at him and tells him to stop it. General Hospital - Aug 1998 - Alan's Drug Addiction Part 28 Part 28. Justus apologizes to Monica about the other night when he confessed the murder to her...and thanks her for not going to the police. Justus appreciates what she didn't do. Monica assures Jason that Edward is acting alone. Jason believes her. Robin, Emily and Monica play with Michael. Jason thinks that Michael thinks they're crazy. Monica describes what AJ did as a baby which is what Michael does. Robin looks on knowing that AJ is Michael's father. Justus tells Edward that he has no chance for custody for Michael and it's eroding any relationship they have left with Jason. Edward tells Justus that they're alike but the difference is that he controls his weakness while Justus denies it. Grandfather and grandson argue...Justus says the only thing they have in common are a few strands of DNA. Emily makes remarks about Jason being Michael's father and we get shots of Robin again...looking conflicted. General Hospital - Aug 1998 - Alan's Drug Addiction Part 27 Part 27. AJ is looking out the patio door at his father...staring at the water. AJ wonders if Alan is wasted. Monica tells him that Alan needs their support for his recovery. AJ tells Monica that she's right and will go sit with him. He's worried about Monica too. He thinks she's working too hard. Monica calls Taggart but hangs up before actually talking to him. She takes out the tape of Justus confessiong to Damian's murder and plays it. AJ walks in and hears Justus' voice and wonders if he's here. Monica covers up by saying it's just a tape she got from Narcotics Anonymous. AJ tries to be supportive, offers to take her to lunch, suggests Monica get a facial, which causes Monica to tell him that does nothing for her ego. Monica says she's going to see Michael. AJ warns her about Jason but Monica tells him it'll be ok. Robin argues with Jason that Michael should be with the Quartermaines. Emily comes in after stealing the paperwork that Edward had drawn up for custody. She tells Jason that she'll testify that Michael belongs with Jason and is better off there than with the Q's. Robin looks on sadly. Justus tells Jason he has nothing to worry about. Emily wants to take Michael to the park but Robin tells her that Jason doesn't want them to leave the condo because it's not safe. Emily thinks they should bring the park to Michael. Monica arrives to talk to Jason. Jason leaves to make a phone call, leaving Monica and Justus alone. General Hospital - Aug 1998 - Alan's Drug Addiction Part 26 Part 26. Alan pops a few pills and starts to "read" the newspaper but manages to avoid the headlines until AJ and Monica tell him to read it. Alan's pretty much out of it and nobody really notices ... much. Edward and Emily argue about Edward's plan to fight for custody for Michael again. Monica notices Alan is a bit fuzzy but Alan brushes it off as being tired. Monica remarks that the family hasn't been the same since Jason's accident. AJ overhears this and becomes upset. AJ agrees with her but Monica tells him that she's proud of how AJ pulled himself together. Edward argues with the rest of the family about the custody fight. Taggart pays a visit which causes Alan and Monica to freeze up. He tells AJ that he's there to question Emily about the explosion but AJ tells him to get lost. When Taggart eventually leaves, AJ wants to know why his parents didn't do a thing but sit there. They all start to argue. AJ and Emily go for lunch. Monica and Alan talk and hug. Monica tells him how much she loves him and how she's there to support him as he gets better. Poor Alan... how much guilt he must be feeling now. When Monica leaves for the hospital, Alan pulls out some pills but then puts them away. General Hospital - Aug 1998 - Alan's Drug Addiction Part 25 Part 25. Monica visits Justus at his condo. The tape recorder is running in her purse. Justus is still drunk. As they talk, Justus confesses to Damian Smith's murder. Monica, never even thinking that Justus would confess to such a thing, tries to end the conversation and grab her purse but Justus keeps talking (and the recorder keeps recording). Monica leaves with everything on tape. This actor (Monti Sharp) does a great job as Justus but it would have been something to see Joseph C. Phillips do this scene. General Hospital - Aug 1998 - Alan's Drug Addiction Part 24 Part 24. Monica interrupts Taggart while he's entertaining assistant DA Dara. As Monica tries to reason with Taggart, he tries very hard to get rid of her. He pushes her out the door and then gets Dara out of the other room. Justus sees Dara with Taggart and he doesn't like it at all. (He's been pursuing her himself.) Justus confronts Taggart, telling him to arrest Alan or leave him alone. Another day...at Luke's, Justus is drunk and talking loud. Jason sends him home so he doesn't talk too much. Taggart meets Monica in the park. Monica wants more time. Taggart's not patient...he's threatening to call the medical review board about Alan. Monica protests that Justus is a member of the family but Taggart tells her that he rejected them. General Hospital - Aug 1998 - Alan's Drug Addiction Part 23 Part 23. Taggart tells Mac that Monica didn't get anything. Monica is listening to what she recorded when Emily walks in. They talk about Jason and how Monica has finally established a relationship with him. Edward chaperones Emily at one of her photoshoots. He blusters around and tells her that he had the mayor shut down the street so nobody can see her. Poor Emily has nobody to watch her strut her stuff until Nikolas shows up! Emily is so stuck on Nikolas, her eyes light up when he shows up. (Nikolas is actually crushing on Robin right now... Emily doesn't notice.) Jason tells Justus that he's afraid that Taggart is going to use Alan against him. There has to be a way to get rid of Taggart... legally. Jason doesn't care if Alan goes to jail if Taggart is taken care of. Justus warns him that sending Alan to prison will hurt Emily. (Jason's an idiot.) Emily and Edward argue about Jason. Nikolas volunteers to take her over to Jason's condo (he's hoping to see Robin). General Hospital - Aug 1998 - Alan's Drug Addiction Part 22 Part 22. The family thinks that Alan has gone to a NA meeting. AJ leaves to look for Alan but sees Alan putting eye drops into his stoned, blood-shot eyes. Alan spins a lie about getting so involved in telling about the family at the meeting that he lost track of time. AJ looks suspiciously on while the family rallys behind Alan. AJ and Emily leave Alan and Monica alone but Alan's not ready yet for Monica. They hug instead. The next day, Taggart lurks out on the patio and really puts the pressure on Monica. A stressed out Monica agrees to tape Justus saying something criminal. Monica goes to Justus' office to try to get him to say something incriminating. General Hospital - Aug 1998 - Alan's Drug Addiction Part 21 Part 21. Taggart asks Mac how far he can go with Alan and Monica. Mac doesn't want Jason dead, he just wants him out of the mob. Monica goes to Jason's to talk with him. She doesn't tell him what Taggart is doing but does tell him that Taggart is causing trouble for Alan. Robin comes down with Michael and interrupts them. Mac, after a disastrous dinner with Jason and Robin, tells Taggart to put the pressure on Alan and Monica. The next day, the Quartermaines are preparing for Alan and Monica's anniversary. Monica arrives but Alan's missing. While the others look at the presents, AJ phones the hospitals to see if Alan has ended up in the ER. When he gets a description that resembles Alan, he tries to sneak out. General Hospital - Aug 1998 - Alan's Drug Addiction Part 20 Part 20. Mac asks Taggart what's he doing to Monica. Taggart tells him everything and Mac's not happy. He doesn't trust Alan's fate with Taggart. BUT he's also not happy that Robin has moved in with Jason. Here it comes... the beginning of Jason becoming the hero and the police are the bad guys. Mac agrees to let Taggart run with this in the hopes that it will force Jason out of the mob but he wants everything going through him first. Monica goes to see Mac but unfortunately, Taggart is in his office. Taggart informs her that Mac's on HIS side, not hers. She accuses Taggart of enjoying using one side of the Quartermaine family to wage war on the other side of the family. Poor Monica is in such a bad place now. She has to choose between Alan and her son. Mac comes in later and wants to know if Monica will betray Jason. Mac wants Jason out of the mob and thinks this is the way to get him out. General Hospital - Aug 1998 - Alan's Drug Addiction Part 19 Part 19. Alan pops some pills before going out on the patio and sitting down. Looking sad and troubled, he tries to cheer up when Emily comes along. Emily tells him that she's really proud of him as Alan looks, again, uncomfortable. She tells him that if he needs to talk to her, she's there for him. Poor Alan, he's fooling everybody but himself and he's feeling really guilty. Monica meets Taggart on the docks and gives him the papers she swiped from Justus' desk. Taggart isn't happy... the papers do not implicate Justus or Jason. Monica tells him that it's not her fault they don't help him. Monica, on the offensive, threatens Taggart. Taggart, not liking that, brings in Alan's dealer and puts the screws to Monica again. While Taggart leaves to deal with another matter, Mac walks in and wants to know what's troubling her. Monica tells him everything (Alan's addiction, Taggart's blackmail). Mac's not too happy. While Monica praises Alan for taking care of his problems and feeling guilty about not being there for him, Alan looks uncomfortable. He's still taking pills and he's still in denial. While Monica hugs Alan, she notices Taggert lurking at the patio door (security at the mansion seems rather lax). Taggert continues to blackmail Monica into implicating Justus and Jason. Monica goes to Justus' office to see if she can find anything to get her and Alan off the hook. She grabs some papers off of Justus'desk just before Justus sees her. General Hospital - July 1998 - Alan's Drug Addiction Part 17 Part 17. Edward presents Lila with three anniversary presents. The third present is a song. He sings "Accustomed to her Face" from My Fair Lady to Lila. It's a nice little tribute to Anna Lee and John Ingle does it wonderfully. Monica turns to Alan and tells him that if he's always there, she can face anything. They hug and Alan drops the brochure. He pretends that he went to a meeting. AJ, Monica and Lila are overjoyed. Alan digs his grave deeper and deeper. General Hospital - July 1998 - Alan's Drug Addiction Part 16 Part 16. Monica tries to get rid of Tony but he refuses to leave. Bobbie tries to get rid of Tony but is just as unsuccessful. Monica calls the mansion and finds out that Alan was supposed to be at the hotel. The family wonders where Alan is. As Alan reads the Narcotics Anonymous brochure, one of his dealers arrives at his door. He pops some pills, takes the brochure and leaves the room. The party at the restaurant begins. Lila tells off Tony. As the toasts to Lila and Edward begin, Alan arrives in time to toast them. General Hospital - July 1998 - Alan's Drug Addiction Part 15 Part 15. It's Edward and Lila's anniversary and Monica has planned a celebration at the Port Charles hotel. Edward makes comments directed at Alan that pisses him off. As Alan tries to leave, Reginald gets in his way. Monica is at the hotel setting up and trying to tell off Taggart who is on the phone. Tony comes into the restaurant and wants Monica to reinstate him at GH. Monica refuses and Tony tells her about the day Alan was brought into the clinic he's working at and how he OD'ed on drugs. Monica is furious that Tony knew of Alan's problem months ago and didn't tell them. Tony fires back that she's a doctor, she should have noticed something. Ned and Emily return from her photo shoot and Edward immediately dislikes what she's wearing. Alan tries to use this as a distraction to sneak out but Edward catches him. Alan tells them he's going to the hotel to help Monica set up. Edward tells Reginald to drive Alan there. Alan, who has somehow gotten away from Reginald, rents a room for a month (from President Bartlett's secretary!! oops...West Wing reference...) Alan finds books on addiction in the room, including a brochure from Narcotics Anonymous.
