Life in Tokyo #62: Tokyo Game Convention - Part 2 The second installment of my trip to the Tokyo Game Show. I think this is the more bizarre of the two if thats possible. Cosplayers, the kids corner and me getting throwing down alongside a guest appearance by fellow youtuber TkyoSam. It was by complete chance we ran into each other outside as I was on my way home Kudos to Norton for the cool show: http://www.symantec.com/ Music: New Young Pony Club - Ice Cream Rolling Stones- Street Fighting Man Unknown - Unknown Tags: tokyo game show 2008 japan makuhari messe videogame sega nintendo playstation otaku cosplay norton security TGS |

Life in Tokyo #62: Tokyo Game Convention - Part 1 I visit the Tokyo Game Show, held despite its name in neighboring Chiba. Despite my ambivalence at first it was a good time. I had no intention of going originally, but after recieving a number of requests (actually demands) from viewers I felt I had to go. Apologies for the usual audio problems which were worse since I was filming basically inside a giant pinpall machine. I promise I'll get a proper mic one of these days when the budget allows. Be sure to check out part 2! http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=4khoD_eAHIk Music: The Revels - Comanche Big Sugar - Girl Watcher Tags: tokyo game show chiba japan makuhari messe videogame sega nintendo playstation otaku cosplay TGS 2008 |

Life in Tokyo #61: A Day in The Country I take a trip to the mountians outside Tokyo for a one day escape from urban life. It was nice to get out of the city, however brief. I got back in touch with the non-metrosexual manside by grilling meat over hot coals and having a warm schvitz. I wish I could do this every weekend, but sadly life in Tokyo is mostly working for the man. For those curious about costs and such: Log Cabin: 5,000 yen (Per person, cabin sizes range from one person to groups of 6) Bar-b-que Rental: 2,000 yen (including charcoal) Train ticket: 2,600 yen one way (depends on which train though) Bus: 620 yen one way Onsen: 500 yen Groceries: 3,000 yen Charring meat: Priceless English Ok. Pets Ok. But you must return the cabin to the state you found it in. I highly recommend this for families, especially if you can drive. Using public transport was a bit of a pain in the ass, and limits your options if you are staying for more than one night. ***Also, just a reminder I'll be broadcasting live on BlogTV Wed and Thursday at around 11am Tokyo Time. My guest on Thursday will be Mike from the K-1 kickboxing video. He is back in town for work and will stop by to discuss readjusting to his new life Los Angeles after 20 years living in Tokyo. Should be a really fun time. Check out the webpage for info, and a time countdown to when the broadcast airs in your neck of the woods if you are confused by time zones. http://blogtv.com/people/tokyocooney Seriously... check it out. Life in Tokyo #58: Fish Are Our Friends I spent the day, or rather I should say night into morning at Tsukiji Market. I think I still smell like fish with the amount of gore I got on me. There were a lot of great experiences and while i had about 2 hours of footage I finally got it down to the appropriate 10 minute YouTube limit. Kind of hard to explain it all, so I hope it makes sense. I was lucky to be a part of some of the behind the scenes stuff as I was there in a work capacity for another job. So, no... they probably wont let you do some of the stuff I was lucky enough to get to do. But many parts of the market are open to the public including the Tuna auction, and some parts of the wholesale market area. I highly recommend a visit if you are ever in Tokyo. Life in Tokyo #57: Surviving Japanese TV So a few months ago I was working on an ABC reality show called "I Survived A Japanese Game Show." Its currently broadcasting on ABC, so I recommend checking it out. It was an interesting experience for me since it was the first time Ive worked with a non-Japanese TV crew in 7 years. All of the staff were from LA, except for me and the other local hires. Look for my name under "Japanese Crew" though last time I checked... I'm not Japanese. But then, I suppose in this case I am. Also, some of the footage from my confessional room interview during my short period as a contestant nobody else knew about. Im not actually in the show of course, I was just on the production staff. "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" Is on ABC Tuesday Nights at 9/8 Central, Summer 2008. ***The background is Sensoji Temple in Asakusa, Tokyo*** Tags: survived japanese gameshow tokyocooney japan tokyo life work job money crazy TV abc tuesday night 2008 youtube |

Racism in Tokyo 東京の人種差別 People stare at us foreigners. But why? Just becasue of the way we look? みんな見られている。 でも、なぜ? 見た目が気になるから? Filmed by TokyoCooney, Staring Ken Suzuki and Leila Ali. **NOTE to the irony impaired. This is a comedy video. Both of the people are actors. And YES the reason he is staring at her is because she is wearing a pikachu outfit. That is the whole point. The punchline is that she thinks people stare at her because she is black but really people are staring because of the outfit.** www.tokyocomedy.com More more about the Tokyo Comedy Store check out http://tokyocomedy.com Tags: racism tokyo foreigner 人種差別 外国人 comedy pikachu |

Life in Tokyo #54 Acceptable Risk I wouldn't watch this vid if you are eating, or have an aversion to parasites. Though, I suppose we all have an aversion to parasites. I guess I mean, if you have a strong aversion to parasites. Anyway... my point is this video is a bit gross. My purpose in this is to point out that statistically, cigarettes, alcohol and greasy foods, however enjoyable, are far more risky than eating what may be for some "bizarre foods." This however doesn't mean you should ever try preparing raw chicken, pork or fish at home. Life in Tokyo #53 A Phallus Festival Don't watch if you have a problem with giant statues of male members being paraded around the streets. They are paraded here in a traditional (but not typical) Japanese festival called the Kanamara matsuri. Held in Kawasaki, this is certainly a unique matsuri in terms of its theme, but the atmosphere was like any other I've been to. Lots of people having fun, eating, drinking and dancing. If you get past the striking visuals at its core this festival like many others is simply a way for people to pray for health, fertility and happiness. Special thanks to Tkyosam and TokyoSwan for joining me. Also to RoninDave sorry I didnt have any footage of you in there. Love you guys in a non gay way. For more info on the festival check out the wikipage... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanamara Intro music made with Garageband. tokyocooney.com More of my thoughts on the festival can be found in my Blog: http://web.mac.com/tokyocooney/HereIsJapan/Blog/Entries/2008/4/8_Of_An_Offensive_Nature.html Tags: kanamara matsuri kawasaki japan iron phallus festival genital statue hot dogs are freudian wow pink |
